SASKATOON
Okay long story short... again.
got the car in Jan. Was fine until say June. The clutch cable started stretching out. I found out it had a racing clutch, alum flywheel and adjustable cable quad. Got a new Adjustable cable and threw it in, it lasted a few days. I got a centerforce clutch and threw it in... same problem. Got the car dragged to the local Ford Dealer. They had it for a month, the foreman wasn't sure what was going on, and reccomended replacing everything. So I replaced: Quad, linkage, cable, clutch fork, pivot ball, pilot bearing, FLYWHEEL, and he put in the centerforce clutch again. Now it lasted just fine, but the TOB chirped a bit. I took it there to get the TOB repaced and low and behold on the way there the cable was showing signs of stretching (funny pedal feeling, low engagement, hard to get into gear). Now the question:

What the hell is causing this now?

Has anyone had this severity of clutch cable issues?

If anyone has any suggestions, please respond!!!!

Thanks in advance.

P.S. if this looks familiar I did post it up at my other hangout.

I remember a while back there was a rash of bad adj cables. Did you use the same brand cable each time? Is the clutch pedal hard to depress? If not the cable should not stretch unless it is defective. You might try a stock Ford cable with the aluminum quad & a firewall adjuster.

Originally the car came with some type of cable (not sure which one)
Then I bought a BBK one with the quadrant.

Now I have the OEM one with everything factory, Quadrant and all). This was about a month maybe 2 ago... and everything (I mean everything) was replaced.

The pedal has also gotten gradually harder to press since I got it back from Ford.

If everything is stock again, try depressing the clutch, releasing and then lifting it toward you with your toe. You should hear a click as the quadrant readjusts. If not then it may already be adjusted all the way out...back to your firewall adjuster if you still have it.

Exact problem..

Man.. I have the same exact problem.. Im trying to decide what to do. I have a center force clutch in mine. The cable keeps stretching wtf? or is it the clutch? Im finally down to the last adjustment threads at bottom of car and its not really drivable anymore.. I dont know what to do.. Ive adjusted about 7 times now..

What about the bearing retainer? The bearing retainer is in the front of the trans and is the tube that the release bearing rides on. I know on the Fox bodies they came with aluminum bearing retainers. The aluminum would wear and make the release bearing hang up. There is a replacement that has a steel sleeve for the release bearing to ride on. The later model might come with steel retainers, but I'm not sure.

So... I feel kinda weird about this one but...

I can't adjust the self ratcheting mechanism the way that is meant. I have to physically seperate the two ratcheting parts and move the one by hand to have it tighten. I was able to adjust it but only that way. When I try the other way it just loosens tension and doesn't work.

So I *think* (and hope) that was all that was wrong. So far after 1 full day and some good ol' fashioned abuse :) it's held up.

I guess I will know for sure in a few days.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions guys !!!!

Well a small update cause there is questions.

I drove it until last night and it was fine. Then I had the same problem. I tried to adjust it again but of course it's at the last part of the adjuster. I found out tonight that it is possible to force it 1 last more click and hopefully I have another 2 days with it. It goes to Ford AGAIN on Monday a.m.

I'm pretty sure I'm getting a factory ford clutch in while it's there, as well as whatever else is the problem. 100% factory and I should have no problems ( I hope )

but... if this same issue comes up again in another 3 months I'm getting everything warrantied I'm going to sell it :(

then I'm going to import another Cobra ( probably a 98 ) with a T56 and a blower (should be about the same amount of $$ as I can get for this one)
