Hell
I really want a glassback.

The question is do I add one to my 05, or do I trade up to a 09?

My 05 has 24k on it and is still like new inside and out.

Anyone been able to get a glassback on the low end of 2k vs 3k?

good question. I suggest sticking with your current car because you will lose more than 3K stepping up to a new one.

I'm still tryin to find out where to get it done so I didn't even know the range until now. glassback.com is not working anymore so I can't find any local Denver area shops and I haven't been able to get anything from CDC. Do you have any idea what they charge?

LB

I called CDC and they turned me on to a shop in Little Rock. I called and they quoted me around $2000.

Next weekend Im going down on my bike (125 miles) to check them out. If the shop looks good and I can get a written estimate I will leave a deposit. They said it will take about a week to get the glass and 3 days to do the install.

A 09 base V6 with a factory glassback will run 24k. My 05 V6 with GT bumpers/exhaust/rims/sway bars/supercharger/misc appearence items only brings 13k trade-in.

Keeping my 05 looks better everytime I go down to ford.

its been a proven fact over the years that the base models dont hold value near as good as a GT or higher trim level. if you like your car the way it is, why get a new one that you would have to mod to get it like this one?

$2k is a deal for a glassback. deals like that are not happening near me, i have tried. unless i have 6 cars ready to drop the cash today, nothing under $3k. :(

I would have prefered a higher trim level but when the 05s hit the showroom, if you wanted one you had to take what they had.

At this point I owe so little on my 05 that it doesnt make sense to trade.

I just get bored.

Some work on the 05 and I have a goldwing project for the winter that should keep me busy and out of trouble.

Bigcat, I spent a winter in Casper. Brrrrr

yep, winters are not fun in this very windy state :( last winter it was 30 below (real temp) and the wind was not letting up. makes for a long winter with days like that.

Well, if you have it done aftermarket to your '05 is the structural integrity preserved or do they just take a can opener to it? Sounds like some serious work to me. Hope it won't leak after its done. Correct me if i'm wrong.

If it were myself, and if I could finagle the bucks, I'd trade it in for a new one...... with a glassback already in place and you could also get a higher trim level to boot. Plus, even though the S197 is basically the same car, there are subtle changes from year to year.

If you opt for an '09 is there a way you can return the 05 as much as possible to stock and put those mods on the 09? In my experience, mods don't add a lot for trade in.

If your location is "Hell," consider how hot it will be with a glass roof. I looked at FordVehicles and was not able to find out whether it had some sort of inside shade. I've been in vehicles with lots of glass area and I found it hard for the A/C to cool the cabin down.

We have them on the lot and frankly I'm not that impressed. It does come with a manual shade but it is chintzy IMO. Its a screen like material and is not stretched very tight on the shade frame. I can see it flapping if riding with the windows down and the shade closed. I'm in Texas and the cars are hot puppies if you climb in one thats been in the sun all day!

I have the glassback, and I have absolutely no problems with it. It does NOT flap around with the windows down, and yes; its a screen. The sun shines through a very small amount and it does NOT get hot because of it.

I like it, but it not the most AMAZING thing ever, at night; all you can see is the reflection of your gauges, so you cannot see the... stars?

Anyway, its a good investment; it is well put together and I enjoy it.

I'd be scared of doing something like that aftermarket. If it isn't done right it will leak and it would be a pain to fix. Trading up to a new mustang gives you a new warranty and assurance of a quality job on the glassback.

+1 on the weather issue.

In Houston I would NEVER own one of those things! Then again in super cold weather I wouldn't either also because glass might shatter with thermal expansion especially considering how big the surface area is.

Has your wind shield ever shattered because of heat expansion? I live in Minnesota, gets near 100 degrees, also gets below zero in the winter, I have had no problems with wind shields.

The glass roof is the same thing as the wind shield. I can put money on it that it would never crack or better yet; shatter. It's more or less the same size as the wind shield of the car as well.

Sorry wind-farmer, wasn't trying to dog you on your roof at all. Actually I think it's a really cool option and the roof itself is very well done from Ford. The shade is the only thing I think could be a little stouter is all. I would however be very scared of letting someone do it aftermarket. That's an awful big hole to cut in your roof!

I had a rear window explode on me before because of the temperature changes that's my experience. That said in MN the weather is cold and stays cold here the thermal excursion can be mind boggling at times.

I have a true CDC Glassback. For those with the 09 glassroof option, please refer to it as a glassroof so there is no confusion.

The 09 glassroof option has a distinct variation in color between the border glass area and the part you can see through (the part in the middle is much lighter when seen from the outside). The CDC Glassback is a more uniform dark color when seen from the outside; it does not come with a shade and comes with some extra trim pieces. You need to see both types in person before deciding.

Hello guys....I read all your comments about the glass roof...I am happy about the glass roff and will put it in my Ford Mustang GT with a damaged metal roof...so it would be a great chance to change it and make it lighter inside....but my problem is to get one...where can I buy one? How much is a replacement at a ford dealer if one crashed during an accident?About 2K?And is it possible to change?Does anybody have pictures of a stang without glass where I can see the frame???I would be happy to get any idea or help for my experimental Glass Roof Project....feel free to mail at [email protected]
