MAF Sensor fitment

My 4.6 is throwing codes for too lean. I am going to clean the MAF sensor as a first step, but the sensor itself didn't fit too well when I put it back in after a CAI upgrade (it was a demolet CAI). Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the sensor to seal better? I think the stock part it went into was flat, at least it was flatter, the part now is round and I am having a hard time getting it to seal right.

I have the Demolet intake "mistake" but my MAF fits just fine, what exactly doesn't fit flush? If its a manufacturer problem then return it for another tube. As for cleaning it don't bother, if there is improper fitment that will cause codes. BTW his tunes SUCK that may also be the problem.....I had lean codes too until I got another tune.

I have already taken the filter off (it was filthy) and have cleaned the maf sensor with sensor cleaner. One of the rubber washers roke in half and I ordered a part from ford. I will take pics though and post them if I can't get it to work tomorrow. I had my tune redone anyway though when I had 4.10 gears put in. it has 4.10 , 93 oct tune, demolet cai, that's it for the engine. I also have ram air through a gts hood which I have suspected makes it run lean.
 
Today I took it to the dealer. for wet floorboards, bounceback window and stalling. there are TsBs for all 3. the tech said he couldnt fix the window due to aftermarket alarm system. Apparently he didnt try to folow the steps in the tsb which I did afterward and fixed the window. The floorboards getting wet have nothing to do with the windows. And I had him replace the fuel filter (I didnt want to waste the dianose charge). dont know why he suggested a filter change its just two years old. and the stalling tsb says to replace the fuel pump. its still under warranty.
the maf fits flush, itjust has one screw holding it. the stock ones are little pin sized screws that screw into a rubber plug, when when you reorder those screws, they are the size of the plug (different screws). the replacment ones are 4mm. I dont know how i can screw the far side screw in, the sensor is in the way. this is bad.
I never heard back from Demolet.
 
i would still have the screw problem. I think that may be the whole problem. it looks like the maf is in flush but it just has one screw holding it now. if I haed the money I would just get a sc or turbo. my car is worthless to me now until I get this figured out. thankfully i walk a couple blocks to work
 
spitting noise

I was wrong when I said it wasn't in flush. I wrote later that it looked like it was in okay except it has only one screw holding it in. In order to screw in the other one I guess I will have to reach my hand in the intake tube and behind and around the sensor to put the nut on the far screw. I tried it yesterday and kept dropping the nut. I am afraid the nut is going to come off and go up the intake when I am driving it anyway. Loctite is made for 5 mm and up, I tried to put some on these but it just gummed up the threads . I wish ford would just end the original threaded rubber piece with screws instead of the 4m screws as replacements.
Also I am noticing a distinct spitting noise if I try to accelerate when it starts to stall. Does the spitting noise help narrow down the problem?
It hasn't shown a cel light though since I picked it up from the dealership
 
Demolet CAI

I had the same exact problem. I had a Demolet CAI intake and I fiddled with it for months, cleaning the throttle body, cleaning the MAF, mine would throw lean codes and stall at stop. I sent the CAI back to DeMolet and he returned it to me saying no problems. John was always nice to me and sent me extra screws and plugs when I needed for the MAF sensor, but I never could get it to work. IMO it appears that these CAI are just too big the 100MM just seems to draw too much air. I know some have had great success, but just didn't work for me. I even bought a tune from Doug at Bamachips for it and had same issue. I finally fixed it by installing a C&L Trueflow, Doug hooked me up with the tunes and haven't had a single issue since, no codes, no stalling. I also run a cervini's ram air hood...just fyi. I hope this helps.
 
thanks hawk. I've had the cai for over a year now. And its stalled after getting off the highways like the tsb says. It really never had bad problems til now though. You never got replacement screws like the originals in the rubber plugs, did you?
 
I will take some pics this weekend. It does sound like the CAI is too big to use with ram air. Even if I had a stock hood though, or stock induction, or another cai, I would still have problems with the screws now. I am going to the hardware store this weekend to to try to get something like the original ones.
 
K5ZX - Yeah I got replacement screws and plugs from John - If you don't get the plugs I really don't see how it will work. I just removed the old plugs and put in the new ones with a little drop of super glue....I can't remember what the size of the screws were...sorry. Another thing I remember is that the tube is is rounded on the DeMolet where the MAF mounts and not flat like you see on stock and the C&L....shouldn't make any issues but just remember that.

Nastystang113 - I agree, that is what I did. I found a used C&L street for $150 on ebay, Doug hooked me up by converting my Demolet tune to C&L for FREE!! Doug is the man in my book, got the chance to meet him at Mustangweek and a great guy.
 
I guess that is the problem. I still think the dealership should replace the fuel pump as it is a recognized problem and has a tsb. I will try to get some plugs from demolet since Ford apparently can't order them (2 dealerships now). I am leaving next week for an army school also, so I guess I will have this problem a while.
 
If you are going to be stuck with it for a while, I would take it back to stock and put the stock airbox back into it until you get the parts.....better than running it lean. Just a sugestion.....rather run stock than blow an engine.
 
Thanks again everyone. I got sent to a military school after my last post here. I figured out that the wellnuts from the demolet cai are not the stock screws. He sent me some more (I got back from ft dix last week and looked ll over tulsa for 6/32 well nuts first)

And since my car was disassembled (the maf anyway) when I left, the car wasnt started the whole time so the battery was dead (and dry) so I had to replace it. But it runs now everything put back together I just need to program it to run richer which can be done from the sct without uploading a whole new tune (unless I misunderstood mr demolet).

Does anyone know how this is done? Mr demolet assured me I didnt need to replce the cai ( I think he remembered you hawk). Hawk did you try to program it to run richer?
