Anyone have problems with fan clearance after new motor mounts were installed?

What fan are you running? Stock with the stock shroud?

You have a little bit of adjustment you can do if you have the stock parts. Check and see if you can move the shroud around and get better clearance.

I also remember hearing that those mounts drop the engine some (or maybe it was compared to other aftermarket ones).

What portion of the shroud was damaged (or made contact initially)?

There's a sticky with aftermarket motor mount info in it, if it helps.........

Good luck.

I had some major fan clearance issues with my '84 when I went to put on a proper shroud and OEM fan (previous owner just had a flex fan with no shroud on there when I got it). My motor mounts are so squashed-out that the engine sits at least an inch or so too low, so I wound up having to grind off a half-inch or so around the bottom edge of my shroud to make things clear.

Replace your mounts with some new poly units, or convert to an electric fan and 3G upgrade and fugeddaboutit. :nice:

What were you running when this problem happened?

I bought the car without the fan. I am just going by what the previous owner told me. He said the fan hit the bottom of the stock shroud and messed them both up. He said this happened about 500 miles after he had the motor mounts intstalled. He said he was in the process of installing an electric fan. I am installing a stock fan without a shroud this week so I can at least drive the car without worrying about it overheating in traffic. I will probably take it back to the shop that installed the motor mounts and see what they think.

The fan really needs the shroud to be reasonably effective.

Something has to be wrong with the mounts or the geometry (you should not be having this issue with a stock shroud and ES mounts). I have a slightly used set (of ES mounts) sitting in a box if you want any measurement comparisons......

If the fan hits the bottom of the shroud (often at about 5 o'clock, as viewed from the driver's seat), that's the usual wear spot for sagging mounts.........

I appreciate the help. I will do some research on the ES mounts. My buddy said that he has ES mounts in his car and never had a problem with hitting. Maybe the previous owner ordered vert mounts? I heard those sit lower. Who knows maybe the shop installed them wrong. I will let you guys know when I figure it out.

Hmmm...well, that takes away one option. lol Anyone else have any input? Oh and HISSIN if you would be so kind as to give me the dimensions of those mounts I'd appreciate it. I looked for the sticky and the one I found had a bad link. :(

I put those 150 dollar energy suspension mounts in an i use the stock fan, radiator, and shroud. Never had one issue. Maybe the guy didnt have the motor seaed all the way in. You have those two little nipples on the mounts that most seat in to the holes. Maybe they werent and you tightened the bolts down anyway. This would exsplain your problem
