I was originally going to install a used TR3650 for as long as it would hold up, but there is no way I am going through all that work, just to do it again. Now I am thinking about going T56.... as cheap as I can. I know I can get a rebuilt unit for 1700, a shifter for 200, and a crossmember for 50. The only thing I am confused about is the driveshaft. Do I need a different drive shaft, or do I just need a different yoke for my stock GT driveshaft?

I figured that the promotion built 3650 is 1650 + Shipping + 400 for a clutch assembly + return shipping on core tranny - core deposit, is about the same price as the T56.

I did a t56 swap in my 98 Gt and I wish I hadnt. Its cool to have 6 gears but I wish I would have went with a promotion built t-45. It would have been much cheaper and lighter. As for the driveshaft I used the D@D t-56 conversion kit and it came with a shorted driveshaft.

By putting together my own kit with a rebuilt trans, I could save almost 1,000. I probably wont do anything until spring, I am just looking for all the information I can get my hands on.

I would consider doing a T45- do they have an SFI approved bellhouse available?

D and D just raised all prices on ALL transmissions by 10-15% on October 1st. T56 swap kit for 94-04 cars is about 3,200 dollars. The Viper t56 is 4,200!! Eff that. I remember those trasmissions alone from there were 1400, now they are 2500. That is bullchit. I was gonna do it too, but I'm not dumping that sort of cash into my car. I'll just fix 4th gear in my T45 and call it a day.

Yeah, I think at this point I am looking for the cheapest and best resolution to get this thing fixed. I am really low on cash and my employer is starting to talk about lay offs... So if I do have to end up living out of my car, I would like it to have a good trans :)

I did the t-56 swap too and dint really like it. And I went with the viper spec. It is heavier and with my pro 5.0 shifter I dont really care for the shifting of it. I would bet I was faster with the 5 speed. If I could do it over again I would go with a tko-500 or tko-600.

I contacted my tuner yesterday. I told him about my clutch issues and trans issue. He's gonna pull the L/T's, pull the trans, give it to me, then I'll take it to my builder and have him fix my 4th gear problem, then hav ethem reinstall everything with a new clutch kit. I'll let you know how much it cost me to just have the T45 repaired. D and D doesn't even sell chit for the T45 anymore. I'll have it there at the end of October.

I was thinking about a tko600 when my trans was effed up. I was also low on cash and just had my stocker fixed. Because of the lt's the extra labor raised the bill to frigging 3000. I was so pissed. And the dealership i worked at did the work too.
