Supposedly an electronic device that you attach to bare metal on your chassis and prevents rust by running some sort of negative charge thru the body of the car.

Anyone know anything about these things and if they may work?

FYI, I do know for a fact that the golden gate bridge in san francisco has a negative charge anti rust system in place, it was on Discovery Channel.....

The golden gate is one rusty bridge. I walked it earlier this year and it needed to be painted again.

Never heard of the rust device you are talking about.

I'm going to be a Nay-Sayer here and say that this device wont work very effectively unless your car is submersed in an electrolyte such saltwater (or Gatorade! just kidding).

I haven't seen the Discovery Channel, but as I understand it, the Golder Gate Bridge uses zinc plates as a sacrificial anode to prevent electrolysis from corroding the bridge. A positive voltage is connected to the zinc plate and a negative voltage is connected to the bridge. With both submersed in the electrolyte (sea water in this case), electrons will flow from the bridge to the zinc plate. This will slowly eat away at the plates, but as long as the voltage is biased to the plate and not the bridge, there wont be much corrosion on the bridge.

The reason this wont work well on your car, is because it would be hard for any electrolyte to make contact with all rusting areas of your car. However, you can use the system on boats because many areas make contact with the electrolyte (sea water).

Anyone seen the movie Idiocracy? Ths reminds me of when they're trying to grow plants with Gatorade instead of water.

Your right on the zinc plate on the bridge.

But saturday morning on the Truck U episode it advertised the product I`m talking about, it was what appeared to be small charger of some sort with 2 electrodes that attached to the frame somewhere.

Maybe its the Automotive equivalent of those electrical pads that you put on your abs that make your stomach twitch. They you can get a workout while you watch TV. Too bad it doesnt burn the fat! How are you supposed to burn calories when the electronics are doing the work for you?

This was on an episode 205 of Two Guys Garage.
