Okay for some unknown reason i have a sound coming from my motor and i can't understand what the hell it is. The sound is like an exhaust leak but it only does it when the car warms up and i have been driving it for a bit. I know it is not a rod or lifter. It doesn't make the sound when it is in park and i rev on it. Like for example: i slow down (automatic AoDE) going around a corner and i just push the gas in to speed up, not hammering it, and it seems like it bogs down and starts making this noise. My dad thought it had some water in the gas tank or he thought i got ahold of some crappy gas, so i changed the gas filter, filled up somewhere else, and put some stuff in the tank to make sure if there is water in there, to clean it out. Then my other friend i know says that i either have a clogged cat converter or i need to regap my spark plugs. There is nothing done to the car besides k & n air filter and flow 40 series mufflers. If anyone has had this problem or can point me in the way of what i might need to check let me know please. Thanks!

sounds like an exhaust leak but goes away when i ease into the gas. by that i mean barely pushing it in. But it doesn't do it when i have the transmission in park and i rev on it.

More than likely its spark knock aka detonation aka "pinging". My car cant run anything other than 93 octane without spark knock. It usually occurs under light load at part throttle and will be felt as a light hesitation and a sound reminiscent of an exhaust leak or dropping BBs into a metal container. Id switch to a higher octane, fill up with it and add a good octane booster. Pretty confident that will make your noise go away.

I would also go with pinging as well. The "marbles in a tin can" analogy has been used sporadically to describe the sound. If you switch to 91 octane and the problem goes away, it's pinging. If so, do a search on here for pinging and prepare to read for hours and hours & months of working under the hood. :)

Yeah i think that is what it is also. I saw a thread on here bout spark knock and i read on. Sure enough the guy was having the same problem almost. I will do the 91 Oct. and see what goes on with that. Thank you guys for helping me out. I am getting kinda worried since the car does have 190k on the clock. Will keep you informed.

Keep in mind that depending on how much gas there is of the lower octane, it may take a while for the higher octane cas to make a difference. Id fill up to the top with the best you can buy and also add a bottle of octane boost. Ive had really good results using the Lucas octane boost in the red bottle.
