did you install the lower shift boot?

i can hear a slight whinning from my tranny, but my lower shifter boot is a little tore up letting more noise into the car.

i just rebuilt my 95 t-5 and all gears whine.let me shed a tad bit of light on this that i learned from astro performance.if you rebuild your trans like i did and change some gears out its hard to match up gear material...i.e some of the gears are a lower or higher alloy than others and there for cause whining, and some times if the gears have a real shine where they mesh..that will cause it to whine also.yes its normal for our trans to whine..i kinda like it.its very audible from outside my car and everyone thinks i have a vortech......god it funny when i pop the hood.

thanks guys i wasnt sure if it should have any whine or not thought maybe i intalled something wrong or something was out of balance thanks again

no problem, for those who are interested in rebuilding their t-5 by them self hanlon motorsports has a very detailed dvd for about 20 bucks so you can avoid paying the outrageous cost of something you can do on your own.

I watched that video. Kind of funny. "4th gear doesn't make any noise." Just FYI, that's because there isn't really a 4th gear. In 4th gear, the transmission just locks the input shaft and the output shaft together. The countershaft is unloaded. The gears are always in mesh, but in 4th gear, none of them are under load. Most T-5s make a little bit of gear noise. I wouldn't worry about it. You'd be amazed at how expensive those gears are. I broke some teeth off of 3rd gear in my 3550. Those two gears alone were over $300.
