A/C Removed, Finally!!!

Well after years of wanting to this, I finally got around to taking the AC out. I've had the compressor bypassed for about 2 years, but I just needed to have the AC discharged. So, I did the smog stuff awhile ago, followed by the oil cooler, and now the AC. So much cleaner now!! What do ya think??

Looks good man. That was one of the first things I did to my car. Haven't even really missed it. There was about a month in the summer where I wouldn't have minded having it, but it was nothing unbearable. Now get rid of that nasty looking EGR.

Yeah that original EGR is getting nasty. The cobra isn't my daily driver anymore, so most of the time it just sits there, covered up.

I am thinking the EGR and the PS pump... When my PS needs anything it is gone. same for the A/C... air pump.. well as soon as CT doesn;t require emissions anymore that is gone too...

I don't understand why people remove the A/C from their car.. is the weight savings worth it, to get a .2 sec quicker in the 1/4 mile? In the summer it makes it rather nice inside and in the winter it cleans your windows much faster than hot air alone..

Mine will be out as soon as it isnt my DD anymore. That was going to be this winter, but I picked up a motorbike over the summer instead of a new DD. I hardly use my even with my car being my DD.

Your not alone. A/c is the first thing I fixed on my 95 although it hasn't been a daily driver for sometime now, i still like to be comfortable at any given time especialy if i take it on a trip somewhere for a show or race. To each their own, it does make it clean looking but i'd deal with the clutter for comfort

I have very reflective tint on ALL windows (including windshield) keeping my car very cool in the summer.. More heat comes thru the floor than thru the windows..

the fact that your car is white helps too Gotta have tint was well....I have 5% on the mustangs and use a sun visor in the day time.

Yeah, we had fun pullin all that crap out, and I can say it was nice to pull the condenser out. It not only looks better, you KNOW that air flows more into the radiator.

I can also attest, I've owned my fair share of Stangs here in Daytona Beach, (96 V6, 03 Mach 1, 96 Mystic), and I hardly ever use the A/C. Even in the summer we ride with the windows down.

We pulled off the cowl vent yesterday, and painted it. We'll be putting it back on tomorrow, and have pics of that too!

Take some anti-seize and wipe the EGR down...This one looked just like yours..it'll look mint again..

how involved was it to remove all the AC stuff? My system is discharged and I want to get it out b/c of cleaning up the engine bay and the weight factor.

It wasn't too bad, the ac lines are the easiest, make sure you have the spring coupling tools. The compressor takes some time since there wasn't much room to remove the 2 top bolts, of course it could of been a little quicker if I took the battery tray out. Condensor took about 20 min, you have to remove the fan + shroud, unbolt the radiator and move it a little forward to get it outta there. Finally, I can see my fluidyne from the front of the car, it looks good!!

Going to manual steering is actually pretty expensive. It's a lot cheaper to buy a new P/S pump. I think that last time I checked it out, it was just about $500 for a manual rack and the hardened steering shaft from Flaming River. The factory rack is not designed to be run without a pump, and it is extremely dangerous to drive the car without a P/S pump on it. I know a few people in the past who tried this. At some point or another the rack locked up or broke. One of the guys I knew ended up totalling his car and landing himself 2 days in the hospital when the car hit a tree after he lost steering.

I'm going to stick with my A/C Not worth the weight savings in my opinion. I lived in FL too long. Too each their own though. It all depends on what's important to you.
