hey guys
i finally took the initiative to pull my AC out and save some weight
i drained the freon, disconnected most of the lines by the firewall and i have the condenser out already but i have no idea how and where to unbolt the compessor to yank it out.
How many bolts are there and how do i disconnect the two lines coming out the back of it??
PICS would be great!

Thanks in advance :nice:

PS - all the AC equipment will be up FOR SALE the moment its all out so if anyones interested make me any offer otherwise im junking it (i live in a small apartment and i cant store it anywhere so $40 - 50 and you can have it all)

The lines on the compressor are held by a single bolt in the center of a manifold block. I'm not sure how the compressor is bolted to the bracket, when I had to pull the front end off mine, I took the bracket off with the A/C and P/S still bolted to it.

Good luck!

After you remove the 2 lines on the back of the compressor the way divit said-then loosen the 4 bolts that hold the compressor(I believe they are 10mm) loosen all 4 bolts but leave them in the compressor. There is not enough room to pull all of them out all the way. I think it's easier to get the bolts from the bottom of the car. Be careful the compressor has some weight to it.

ok so let me get this straight
one bolt holding the two lines in in the back, once i loosen it i can simply pull the two lines out of the compressor then from underneath loosen the 4 bolts and yank the "heavy" compressor out...

btw i just wanted to exclamate that im deleting a HEAVY compressor = less weight = me really happy !!!

thank you guys !!!

of course!
im gonna get under it and then take it all out and btw i dont think you can do it from up top anyways

btw just how heavy is this stupid compressor, i had quite a number of ppl warn me about it being heavy
is it as heavy as a battery per say? (i dont wanna drop it n ruin it if its much heavier than i expect it to be at the moment i gotta pull it out)

PS-how much does all the AC stuff weigh all together anyone have an idea??

I think all the AC stuff together is like 60-75lbs or something stupid like that.

Its not THAT heavy but its more than you would think. Plus it is probably dirty with oil and grime so it can be a PITA to handle and get a firm grip of. I would say it is less than a battery but not a whole lot less.

wow!!!
~60 lbs is a whole lot of weight to junk from the front !!!

btw anything else i can gut while im at it? for example is there a nice compact alternator bracket i can install and take the ugly original one out?! or the PS one?

*i removed the Smog and all the related

"Holy huge signature pic batman!"
lmao
why batman? does he have a huge sig pic of the batmobile too?
:rlaugh:

all fixed as far as the sig goes

and the AC is done with!!! It did take me hours and hours but i managed
thanks tho!

If you know for sure you'll never put a super charger on the car or need to relocate any accessories, you can also cut your smog bracket off.

Don't get all excited, it's more like 40#, from what I remember mailing my complete setup. Definitely less than 50.

It was enough, combined with smog removal, that my nose stands noticeably higher than it did with all that junk on there.

I wound up leaving the big honking bracket on, though. Did I read correctly above that it comes in handy for an S/C install? Hmmmm....
