Just got an email from Ford's Maketing Manager, Dan Geist, that Nov 18th Ford will be revealing details in Los Angeles Auto Show of the 2010 Mustang.

I have been harping on them to dump the 5-speed and replace it with a 6-speed, and to give us more cubic inch. We'll see if they have been listening.

This is the rumors I last heard (which was about 4 months ago) for the 2010 GT mustang:

It’s going to be a 5.0 liter 4 valves/cylinder based on the current modular engine (i.e. most stuff will be fwd/backwards compatible) will have direct injection, VVT, pretty high compression, a couple hundred pounds lighter, all aluminum block, 6 speed manual is an option, and make around 400HP.

To me this sounds almost too good to be true, but we can hope…

They could do the 5.0 4v route if they dont mind raising the price and selling less units. Given the projected price of Camaro and Challenger they could probably get away with it. Selling less units would also help their CAFE goals but they would probably have to shut down a plant or two to even think about being profitable. I don't know but I see the days of the musclecar as dwindling given the price of gasoline. Oh, and higher compression engine would mean Premium fuel which is higher consumer cost although the industry doesnt really care because CAFE only counts miles per GALLON, not what type of gallon it is...:)

My contact within Ford Motor Company assures me that the 2010 GT will get the 08-09 Bullitt's 315/325hp 4.6L 3V V8. The 2011 GT will be the first appearance of the 5.0L engine.

If that is all they do (325 hp) shame on them! I think they will reveal more hp (hope-hope) and a 6-speed. I have also heard rumors of a turbo V-6. It will be interesting to see what they have done.

Meh, mustang seems to have always been lower on power compared to the Camaro. The cobra seems to have been created to hang with the LSx's than the GT's. Probably will see a 350HP 5.0 3V and another version of the supercharged 4V either 4.6 or 5.4 in 2011.

Just seems to be the pattern with the Ford vs. Chevy match up.

Last I heard it was still going to be under 30 grand (something like 28 or 29).

For better or for worse marketing a GT mustang with anything less than 8 cylinders (even if it has a turbo or two) is going to be an uphill battle.

I heard they were having issues with the DI, so I wouldn't be that surprised if this was true...

rumor has it even with the high compression 87 octane is not a problem, it does have DI and VVT after all...

Dan Geist told me in his email that Ford has invited the top 10 Mustang clubs to a private showing via satelite. There must be something of interest going on.

i would probly have to agree with wannabegt,im thinking its only gonna be around 325hp-350hp knowing ford, sounds like ther just hyping it up to get more sales by giving very little info slowly overtime, you would think if there was going to be a big increase in power they would brag about it,to me that would drive more sales than secricy.just my own opinion, well see.

2010 Disappointment

I just finished watching the Speed channels coverage of the 2010 Mustang. What a terrible disappointment! I don't like the styling, but understand that styling is in the eye of the beholder, but the lack of horsepower improvements, and the lack of a six speed brings me beyond disgust!!!!:mad::mad:

Just about everybody has a dang six speed, I would not be surprised if Hyundi came out with a six speed model before the GT Mustang !

Ford, what a stinking disappointment!!!:mad::mad::mad:

Yep, I'm not surprised:notnice: Maybe in 2011.

Yes I have heard 2011 will bring more power. The problem is, that gas prices, congress and their love for CAFE standards is on the move. My concern is that Ford will screw around until it is to late.

Well if it makes you feel any better the new engine is suposed to have lower BSFC than what they have now and if set up the way I would expect the 6 speed should improve fuel mileage over the 5 speed.

i kind of figured this was gonna happin.i do like the look, but ford seems to disapoint in the power department.but for them it doesnt matter because they sell more 6 cylinders than GT's.im honestly thinking of going over to the dark side for a little while due to the way our economy is right now, have been looking at
c5 vettes and you can pick them up cheap right now.but i will never give up owning a mustang, even if i sell mine i will buy another fox.will see what the 2011 brings us but i doubt it will be more power.
