My Vortech V2 SQ suddenly changed it's tone from a whistle to a whiney/geary sound. It sounds deilsh, but is totally abnormal for this blower.

Any ideas? Is this dangerous to my motor?

Boost is all there!!! Nothing is missing... just that the sound is now whiney.

Thanks in advance guys.

If you take the belt off, does it seem to have any abnormal play in it now? The bearings may be going bad. I wouldn't think it's necessarily bad for the engine, since the filter should catch any junk that's floating around, but it may not be a bad idea to do an oil change.

Mine does it based on the brand of belt. I can switch to my old belt and it sounds completely different, then switch back, and it changes tone again. It's likely the belt. Or as said, could be your bearings. Best way to find out.... replace the belt.

I've had a V2SQ on my Cobra for almost 5 years and about 14,000 miles. It has gotten louder than when I first got it, but it isn't grinding or anything. It still makes 8.6psi, which is all it's ever made.

December 2005..1.5 years after blower.

that's retarded....how does belt "brand" affect pulley or compressor rotation (which ultimately affects blower noise)?

Like I said earlier if it WAS the bearings he would definitely notice leaking oil in piping...

It was the regular whistle last week. Parked it for 5 days and when I fired it up last night the sound was that new whine.

The belt and seals were replaced about 2000 miles ago.
Because of no tools and having to pull the blower off to remove the belt, I'll have to take it to the shop. But I will check inside for oil and also do an oil change for sure, as well as make sure the pulley is good and tight.

Glad to hear it's not dangerous. Thanks!!!

Check your pulleys. Might not be the s/c. I had 2 pulleys fail. You will have to pull the belt to do that though. The problem is you can't tell unless the pulley has pressure on it.

The second option is something clogging the oil feed line. I had one get the tape in it.

Worse case, wait until something else goes wrong.

i have a v2sq and it did the same thing and vortech said the bearings are going bad i sent it back and they rebuilt it (under warranty) after buying it new with 2,000 miles on it and 3 months the seals went bad and shipped it backfor more warranty work vortechs are not supposed to whine, i heard they got a bad batch of bearings and it depends on your serial # if you fit into that category but in any way if your vortech goes from a whistle to a roots type of whine call vortech to see what they say otherwise your motor will probally eat thoes bearings and thats not good!!!
