What do you guys with a T5 do for a shifter? I am converting from a toploader and I didn't like the long throw of the competition plus shifter. I am told that a T5 is a long reach if the stock type shifter is used. Any suggestions?

When I was using a T5 I had a stock shifter with a UPR Rock Crusher handle. The handle put the shifter ball in a very comfortable location. I would have replace the shifter to a UPR or Steeda unit if I kept the T5 though. I like how both of those shifters allow you to mount the handle slightly higher than most of the others. I have a Steeda shifter and the Rock Crusher handle with my T56 and the reach is perfect even when I go into 5th or reverse which is way over there with a 6 speed.

I am using a t-56 also and have just the stock shifter but because my aftermarket seats I decided to try the restomod shifter and its very comfortable and sets the shifter back toward where you are sitt. Just my .02

I am laughing about your gas pedal. Thats because mine did the same thing three times! I welded it on everytime. The first two times I just tacked it. The last time I got it pretty hot and it has not come apart for several years now. It took a while for the rubber to settle back down after the third time.

Anyway, I forgot to add that I have a pro 5.0 shifter, I just need a handle that I can reach when sitting in the car. The one from mustangs plus has (in your photo) looks very efective, but not very appealing to the eye. Can I just get a new stick to bolt onto my shifter?

Hurst competition plus is a good unit. I have one on a T-5 and another on a Tremec 3650. Both are short throw with good feel and engagement, and like Rapid says, Hurst makes many diffenent styles of handles for them to fit the reach position you like.

I got this shift handle from Reenmachine and it works great! I bought a Pro 5.0 shifter.

What else can you share about this shifter? How does it feel side-to-side, is there any play at all between the original shifter stub and the relocated one? I'm not really a fan of the up/down movement and long throws of the longer sticks, plus the leverage that it puts into the shifter.

I had some back pain before and after not driving my Mustang for a few days, reaching for 3rd gear brought the pain back instantly. That's what caused it!

I drove now about 4 years with this shifter lever from hurst and a hurst pistol grip handle. But it is very heavy and rattle very loud. Sometimes it shift from third in neutral automaticly.

Now i use a stock looking lever with a hurst 5-speed knob. I reach it better and can simpler shift in the third and 5th gear.:nice:
