I sold Hack Job & picked up an 04 Cobra

Hey man, I was browsing on my new iPhone and saw your thread. I'm pretty sure when I opened the thread and saw that it wasnt a prank that I could feel my testicles in my throat. I love Cobra's as much as the next guy, but I dont think anyone could have talked me out of a modernized fox body.

Regardless, both cars are beautiful and dont let my cynicism or anyone elses take away from your enjoyment. I would sell my car in a heartbeat if I thought I could afford a Cobra. Congratulations, man. With your skills and your taste I look forward to seeing what your newest addition will turn out to be. :nice:

While hack job was extremely well done, I have to agree with others...if I had the cash for THAT nice of a kewbra, I'd have to sell my 5.0. Sounds like you had a great time with hack job, but you've made a decision and there is no looking back, good for you! :nice: Can't wait to see what you do with the termi.

OH believe me....when the guy called me...I treated the situation like I didn't want to sell it. I was giving one word answers, short replies etc. It just sounded too good to be true, so I thought it was a scam but scammers don't call you. My stomach was in my throat, I was like don't sell it....bla bla bla. I told the guy to call me during the week. I called my Dad and I'm like "What do I do???" He said.."MATT....look at what we do, we have the resources to do something the same or better in the years to come." So when the guy called me back, I gave him directions. Thanks for the your compliments Rigs!!

I would have done the same :D nice ride man.

:nice: Thank you!

Don't forget fellas.... He bought a wrecked 96 a few months ago and stripped it.. All the parts are stored until he can figure out what he wants to do with them

*wink*

Yes indeed!! I am still sick, so I am home from work the second day in a row. I have no voice!!! My Dad called me yesterday and said they took a call on that Cobra motor.... I'm like...NOOO!!! :rlaugh: haha...It's all set aside, but if I can get some good cash for the stuff, I'll sell it.

Send them to me free of charge?

:D

:D What's your shipping address??:D

My bad, its only 8x as many :p

Its at 42xxx right now.

AAhh....so you hate math too!! :D

Opps...you got this post in while I was quoting the others!! haha.

Thanks for the good words. I did have a good time with it. I took a picture of it on the trailer, but it was with my camera phone which is an old Nextel i860. It's a crappy photo, but then again, I didn't want a good photo of that because it might hurt later on....but it hasn't yet.

No problem. I had a 3-4 hour car ride home with this thing, so I was bored, that's why I called you. I talked to all my friends on that drive home...

1st bold- told you at least 3 1/2 hours. :rlaugh:

2nd bold- did you lose my # ? :nonono: :notnice:

Thanks for the compliment. The 04 and my 96 are night and day. 408RWHP in the 96 is a great amount of power. I have beaten MANY cars at the track and other places. I can't imagine what 595RWHP is gonna do. I guess I can win races faster, let off sooner, and not have to go so fast to win. My 96 took RPM to build boost, where this thing builds boost at the flick of the gas pedal.

I bet your 96 (and 99% of all the other 4v cars out there) would run a hell of a lot better if you degree'd the cams. There is A LOT more power in that car, even with only 8#'s

:rlaugh: Who's that good looking bald guy drinkin the beer? :rlaugh:

The 04 has no suspension goods. All stock. I will see how she acts in the warm dry weather. This cold and wet stuff is making the car wheel hop bad. I hope that goes away.

I have been looking at this IRS brace. Is this what everybody talks about that stops wheel hop?

:notnice: Don't even mess around with the IRS. Do the soild axle swap with 3.73s and some drag radials and go hunting! :nice:

Congrats bro. :hail2:

What for??? So he can give up ride quality and handling just to gain all of 1/10th of a second in a strait line? Besides, there are guys running 10's with their stock IRS still in place, so it can't be all that bad. Cure the wheel hop with the rear end kit and it'll take as much punishment as any stock 28-spline solid axle available right now.

If he was turning his Cobra into a track king, then maybe I could see the upside, but beefing up the stock IRS makes a lot more sense than doing a solid axle swap in all but the most extreme duty situations.

3-1/2 hours?....no it took 5. Jay, it was an ice storm on the way there. There were semis sliding back down the freeway because they couldn't get up the slight inclines. I also saw a Meijer 18 wheeler stopped at a stop sign....and his trailer was sliding sideways and went on top of a gaurd rail. After 100 miles we almost stopped and turned around to go back home. It was SCARY!! We idled down the freeway for about 20 miles in my Dad's truck.

And no...I didn't lose your number. Half the time I call you, you don't answer...:D

I'm not pulling my 96 motor apart to do anything. That motor was built well from the factory. I've never had the throttle body off, the intake, valve cover...nothing, and it's staying that way.

I'm not putting a solid axle in it either. This thing only has 5,500 miles on it. I drove it again today and the IRS handles ALL corners of on/off ramps on the freeway nicely. I noticed myself taking corners MUCH faster in this thing than my 96. The IRS is unbelievable. In 32* weather today the F1's stuck on a 3rd gear (4,000-6,000RPM pull). 2nd is another story. I'm sure once the Nitto's are on and the weather is 75-80* this car will be fine. It's just so damn cold out right now. And the stock gearnig is wonderful. The 3.55's at 80MPH are at 2,250RPM vs. my 96's 4.10's...going 80MPH were 3,000RPM. This 04 is going 100-105MPH at 3,000RPM. I know I have 6 gears, but still, in 5th it isn't even that high.

Thanks for the conrgrats!! You know I'll pick you up and we'll tear some cars up this summer!!:nice: Stop by and check it out.

And BTW...that bald guy drinking beer is you. GD drunk!!...j/k. You're not bald...you just shave your head!!:rlaugh:

Yeah, the ride quality will drop, and maaan, I love how it rides. And yes, I have seen the guys running 10's on IRS at a local track (Milan) and a couple of vids on You Tube....(I can see the tails under the car) so I knew it was IRS.

This car will NOT be a track king. I'm sure I'll go, but I'm not gonna be doing hellafide burnouts and launches. I spent too much on my 96 fixing stuff from being at the track...(rear end diff...$600)...(trans/clutch hassle...$2,000)

I would leave the IRS in the IRS equipped car, you can go fast with them...

I agree...and I am. I MIGHT do the carrier bushings. They look simple and they are cheap. The subframe bushings look like a PITA. I found this link and there is NO way I am dropping the IRS and getting into drilling out stock bushings and risking screwing something up.

My point was, it wasn't a 2 hour trip like you said it would be

:bs:

It has been proven that the cam timing on the 4Vs is off FROM THE FACTORY. I bet you could pick up 25 RWHP if you degree'd the cams.

W/E, it's yours.

You'll be too kewl for me this summer. :rlaugh:

I know it's me DUMB A$$ !!!!! :nonono:

What's the point of having 600+ rwhp if you're not going to take it to the track
A LOT! ? Just sayin-

95% of Terminator Cobra owners DON'T run them on the track. Unless you upgrade the rear end, I wouldn't run it on drag radials or slicks. I'VE seen what happens to an IRS at the Christmas tree when they come apart. NOT a pretty sight for the owner, but freakin hilarous :rlaugh: when it's not your $

I would leave the IRS in the IRS equipped car, you can go fast with them...

 Show me where the F%#^ I said you couldn't go fast with them S^$E for brains?

Personal preference. Where did I say you couldn't go fast with them? You can run 10s with them, but sooner than later, it's going to come apart on you. They are NO WHERE NEAR as strong as a solid axle is.

IF I bought a 99-04 Cobra, the 1st thing I would do is get rid of the IRS.
I'd buy 03-04 Mach1 before I bought a 99+ Snake- but thats just me.

Simmer down and have a beer Jay!! Damn!

1. The ICE kept us from making it in 2-1/2 hours.

2. That 4V stuff I believe was only on 99-04 Cobras, not my 96.

3. I will NOT be too cool for you this summer. I graduate with a Bachelors Degree June, so it'll be time to cruise every night. I will be driving this thing every single nice night after work. This car is NOT gonna be a dyno queen. It's party time baby!!!

4. I know you know that was you, ya goof! :rlaugh::D

5. 600RWHP?? NO..595...:rlaugh: And I haven't been to the track in 4 years. I am sick of waiting in the rediculous lines get a bad run and have to wait 3 hours to practice again. In 2001-2002 it was NEVER like that. I got 4 passes off in 20 minutes. I might go to Lapee EARLY when nobody is there...but the pits are muddy so with this 04...probably not.

6. I bet those Cobras are breaking at the Christmas tree because they are dumping the clutch at 5-6K. I will leave at idle just like I did for my 12.50 pass in the 96. I don't want to break stuff.

7. Have some respect for 25thMustang too. He is a drag racer at heart. He only goes every single weekend. :nice: AND....he might be coming up this year for Woodward so we are all gonna hang out at the Alley and get some beer at B-Dubs...

Personal preference is personal preference, but you're mistaken if you think the stock '03-'04 Cobra IRS is any weaker than the stock 28-spline solid axle rear. Sure, once you've upgraded to 31 or 33-spine axles with the solid rear end, the benefits are realized, but in stock trim I've seen them break with stock cars on slicks.

Wheel hop is what kills the IRS, but once that's been addressed with one of the improvement kits, that no longer becomes an issue. They'll take as much, if not more abuse (since the half shafts are heavier) than the stock stick axles and when they fail, there are numerous axles upgrades for the IRS as well.

On a further note, you need to dial it down a couple of notches Jay. There's no need for the attitude what so ever! 25thmustang didn't ask, nor did he deserve the crap you just pulled. And from what I can see, he wasn't even addressing you. So be civil, or be gone. Infraction issued.
