Find a wrecked '87-92 5.0 as a donor. Park the two next to each other in a garage and switch EVERYTHING mechanical over. You can go with the EFI if you're EFI savvy and have the time/patience, or just stick with carb for simplicity. Switch the rear end/axle, the front/rear suspension, transmission, everything. The thing about Fox Mustangs is that they consistently got better over the years 79-86, but remained almost mechanically identical between 87-92. I say don't get a 93 motor because the pistons are hypereutectic and don't handle power adders as well as the forged units in the earlier cars.

Aside from the car's insides, keep the '79 body intact. You don't see a lot of straight Foxes that old.

Lastly, lets see some pictures!

X1000 on everything said above.

do the donor car thing as stated above. if you want to build the motor go for it, but to save yourself the headache of piecing a car together little bits at a time to get it all to work together, get a an 87-93 donor car and swap it ALL

if you do change the looks at all, leave it as a 4 eye at least...

if it is an original 4-cyl car then the K member will work

if it is an original 6-cyl car, you will have to change the k-member

not sure why anyone would go from a 2.3 to the 3.3...not much of an upgrade...nor do I know how it is done being that the k members are different...some kind of adapter mounts? I am not familiar enough with the particulars

Why not just change it out for a tubular k member anyway?
