i have had about 8 mustangs and the 2.3 cars get swapped for v8s. but i ran across a good deal on a 89 hatch 2.3 auto with 70,000 miles. the car was drove home from maryland to west virginia from the guy i bought it from he said it runs but sounds like it has no oil in the motor. he said he checked the oil and there is oil . so what i need is to find out is things to check out. this will be a daily driver for my girlfriend until we swap it.

i know the first thing is to check for oil pressure

what else do you 2.3 guys reccomend to check out?

if the car drove 2 hours im thinking it has oil pressure.

thanks for any help guys

Hi,

Id hook up a mechanical Oil Pressure Gauge and go from there.

It sounds like the Oil Pump may be the culprit or theres excessive wear on the Engine internals but again, if you hook up a mechanical Oil Pressure Gauge, you will rule out right away the Oil Pump.

Hope this helps.

What noise is it making? Is it a tapping coming from the top end? If the car sat for a long time before it made the drive, then it could be that one of the HLAs has bled down. It might pump back up eventually, or it could just be replaced, if that was the case.

Thats about the only noise i can think of a 2.3 making thatll make you think very bad things, without actually having something terrible wrong.
