can a auto fox still haul the mail?

i'm looking at getting back into mustangs and am looking to buy a fox or other used v8 mustang 87 to 04.

i would rather have a 5 speed as i know thay are just much funner to drive.
but my wife really wants me to get a auto as she does not know how to drive a stick and is to stubborn to learn.

i'm looking to turn the fox stang into a fun weekend toy that runs low to mid 12's
(maby a little faster:D)

so my ? is how hard is it to make a auto perform at that kind of power levels?
would the auto hold up? or would i need to invest all kinds of cash in it.
can a auto still be fun?

i whant the wife to be happy with the car also and be able to drive it, but not at the cost of the goals.

Yes a standard is much more fun to drive and in most street cars a 5spd is faster, but you have to know how to drive in order to be fast. I am running a TKO for now but I think my next combo is going to have a C4. I have a 377 in the works and I plan on pushing about 600 hp with it and I don't think I have the skill to operate a standard with that much power behind it. I am only making 500 with my 347 and it is taking all I can do just to keep up with shifting as it is.

Go to the track, alot of stangs, especially the faster ones are auto.Me personally, prefer a manual tranny, but if i were to build a crazy horsepower drag only car ,would put a auto in it.But yes there are some fast autos on the street, anything can go fast with enough cash.

I have a friend with an 89 with a 347/C4 combo that ran 10.96 and another with a turbo'd 302/C4 combo that ran 10.93, both last summer. Most of the truly fast cars at the drag strip are running some kind of automatic transmission.

Check out Click Click Racing for all the automatic go-fast stuff you could ever need.

Im going with a Sliverfox Performance Transmisson he Valve body thats close to the lentech and Im going to use a Dirty Dog stall convertor which will be 2800-3200 rpm...I might go with the 4r70w gear set too....

If you get a 99+ Mustang, the auto will only be .1 slower than the 5-spd. I've seen it firsthand.

As for the 5.0..typically dogs although my '88 ran a 14.6 BONE stock with the Auto tranny and 2.73'a

Yeah i would like to know that too?..... Hey how much time in the 1/4 can you knock off with a good stall and Performance transmission over the Stock AOD....say i put in a 3000 stall and a Performance trans with a Lentech valve body what would i pick up? Would the car be faster?....
