Parking and rear lights stay on even when the switch is disconnected..

Weirdest thing, On my 87 GT I can completely take the light switch off of the dash connectors and the parking lights and the rear lights stay on. They are pretty dim, but enough to run the battery down. The only way I can get them off is to disconnect the battery.. Any suggestions?

Look for melted wiring (shorting power to the parking light circuit). The parking light wire is brown.

Be sure your brake switch isnt staying closed as well.

Good luck.

Hmm ok, I checked all the bulbs..seemed fine. I put new ones in just to see..also, the switch has one small place that is brown, like it may have gotten hot from a spark. The thing is when I completely take the switch off of the connectors, the lights stay on. I can have two connectors attached to nothing and the lights stay on until I d/c the battery.

Again, check the brown wire for voltage with the switch disconnected. You should have a nominal amount. Really check the back of the connector for melted wires. The brown wire probably melted and shorted to the power feed. Also check any aftermarket wiring on the lighting circuit (like for an alarm).
