Best CAI to use with a Kenne Bell

As the title mentions, which would be the best cold air intake to use with a kenne bell other than kenne bells? I'm currently running KB's tune but I have minor issues with detonation and things. I am going to upgrade to a 75 MM throttle, 90MM SCT MAF, and a cold air, then get it re-tuned by a local tuner.

If you're already having detonation problems, adding airflow is not going to solve your problem. I think it's odd that KB's mail-order tune would be detonating, so I'd check for things that cause detonation, such as bad gas, incorrect octane, carbon build-up, clogged fuel filter, too much timing, inadequate injector size, failing boost-a-pump, failing fuel pump, etc.

Thanks for the responses, but to keep this thread short, I have already checked all of those things you have mentioned above; I'm not worried about the detonation since I am going to get it re-tuned locally after I get the TB, MAF, and the CAI. But I am still left with the question, which is the best CAI that will fit...I would like to go JLT, but I read that it won't fit, maybe someone could post some information about that. What about Demolet? Thanks.

Ever consider making your own? Not tough to do. You can pretty much buy all the inlet piping and silicone fittings right on Ebay. And go with an open element filter on the end. I picked up 21rwhp and straitened out my MAF signal by doing just that.

I am very happy with my demolet, with it and the 75mm tb I gained 1 psi boost, (20 hp?). I switched from the mac cai(chrome).
one reason I picked it over the jlt is I prefer my maf in the engine compartment not in the fenderwell. my iat's seem to run about 30* above ambient

i have a 1.7. and the jlt, its tight but it does fit

I have thought about making my own and I might look into it....I am leaning towards buying an aftermarket one though.

Is there a specific demolet you ordered? I haven't been to their site in a long time...Do you have a pic of your setup that I could see?

As far as the JLT fitting with the 1.7....does it fit with a 2.1 and is it the fenderwell CAI? I'm not wanting the ram air one.

Thanks for the responses!

It is the tunable induction fenderwell cai for a KB. picture not great but what I have now

gets a little bigger if you click on it, KB is very clear on the fact that they do not recomend the underhood intakes

I thought about that too, but the problem with that idea is that the stock intake tube wont stretch over the 90mm MAF meter. :(

Damn.

Well, in my particular case, as long as my OE 80mm meter isn't saturating at the relatively modest power levels I'm at I'll probably just stay with it and go that route. I'm all stock internals (except cams) and don't really want to push it much further so the stock meter should do and thus a drop-in should work.

Right? :)

I have a Demolet intake on my car and would buy the KB intake if I could do it over again. I'm just not happy with the quality of the Demolet and would like to try something else.

As long as you're not running out of the metering range of the stock 80mm meter, then there's no realy advantage to upgrading. A physically larger meter will provide more volume, but if you're engines not processing it, its only stacking up on the intake side anyway.

Have you had any issues with your Demolet? That pic looks sweet. I am leaning towards your setup actually (the Demolet, 75mm TB, and the 90MM)

What kind of power are you putting down to the wheels?

I have no issues with the demolet,I see no quality issues. the jlt is 4" all the to tb,which I see no benefit with the 75mm tb and it creates a fitment issue with the shock tower and oil fill(on mine anyway)

I have not had it on a dyno, but the buttometer is very happy:nice:
