eating oil?

The problem with taking it to the dealer is that's it's not an obvious problem, meaning there is no obvious issue for them to fix (or so I guess since you haven't figured out why you're lossing oil).

You're mileage sounds good to me, which is a good measure of engine performance to some extent. If you were burning oil due to a bad ring seat on some of the cylinders you fuel mileage would suffer significantly as would performance.

Check the PCV system to see if it's regurgitating a lot of oil, and is there any obvious oil buildup around the motor? Other than that, yeah I'd take it into the dealer, but I'm guessing their just going to do a visual inspection and maybe check the compression of each cylinder. And if that passes they'll probably just give it back.

One last thing, what are you driving habits like? Do you live real close to work, or do a lot of short trips? Lots of short driving trips(5 miles or less), especially in cold weather, can cause you to burn a bit of oil.

My girlfriends 2006 VW Rabbit has the same problem. It eats about a quart every 3000 miles. I doesn't smoke or leak anywhere. We took it to the dealership and they said that was normal oil consumption. I just don't understand where the hell the oil goes.

My 2001 explorer doesn't lose or burn a drop of oil. I live about a mile from work so I take a lot of short trips. I also pull trailers and drive it like it like I stole it on a regular basis and the oil level always stays the same.

Weird how one car can use so much more oil.

My 06 smokes when its cold..."normal" for a while but I look around and she seems to be one of only a few cars smoking. I get 26-27mpg highway and 23 mpg mixed... no mods other then the spacer and lowering springs (still cant locate the stupid UDP puller in this small town and the dealership wants $200 to install them) but I dont lose any oil... what oil are you using??
