Hurst or Steeda

When I had the Steeda Triax in my stang I'd be taching above 6000 rpm's and shoot for 3rd gear and hit the brick wall. Or going from 3rd to 4th once in a while it would try to hit 2nd. I have over a million miles stick shift driving experience and this crap was unacceptable. I was actually kind of scared to speed shift this car. With the MGW shifter I have never missed a gear. I can plant the gas to the sheet metal and shoot for any gear and 3rd gear is the easiest now. You don't even have to think about it...just push the shifter forward without looking for 3rd at all and it goes right in smoothly.

How many turns do you have yours set at? I put mine on late this fall and it felt pretty notchy. Only got a week and a half to drive it before it went to storage:(. Mine is set at 8 turns. I've heard they get smoother after a month or 2 of driving. Just curious what other people have set theirs at.

MGW all the way man, just look at one....B-E-E-F! Apocalypse strong, those things are made from shards of Thor's hammer. I had one on my old '99 GT and it was king. As another poster said on here..."see the light". :flag:

well, I'm not anthony05gt...but I can tell you I've got mine at (I "think" if memory serves me right) 6 turns and it's plenty notchy. It also seems to have gotten worse over time but I think that it's due to the transmission because of the weather getting colder and not the shifter. When the car's warm it shifts OK but if it's cold out it can be difficult to get it into reverse and any of the first 3 gears are rough (it takes the synchros more time to mesh). I had problems with my last two 5spd non-Tremec Mustangs too when it came to reverse and cold shifting and both were fixed by synthetic ATF so that might be an upgrade I'll do in the near future.

I was actually thinking of turning mine in a couple of turns to make it less notchy. Even at its longest throw setting I bet it would shift better than the stock shifter due to it being more precise and that return spring for the 3/4 shifts.

I have mine at 5 and the shaft as high as it will go (bottom of shaft flush with the bottom of the shifter block) and it's not notchy. I thought of going to six but instead lowered the shaft which may have accomplished the same thing. It's stiffer but no problem getting into gear even in the cold. You may want to bring the shaft up and see if the additional leverage makes it easier. When I bought mine I spoke with George who told me a lot of guys turn it out to the max and push the shaft down to the bottom which makes the shifting stiffer or notchy. He recommended bringing the shaft higher and letting the leverage work for you.

I have mine at 8 turns and the shaft is almost as low as it will go...maybe 1/4'' from the bottom. I plan on changing mine to just a couple of turns and raising the shaft about 1/4''. I want a bit longer throw and a bit more leverage even though it feels good. I'm used to a longer throw like all of the old school cars had. Our cars look kind of silly with too tall of a shifter coming up out of the console so I'm thinking 1/4'' more won't drive me nuts looking at it. Some knobs stand up higher than others when threaded in so you have to take that into account too. The stock style knobs thread way down deep and sit very low. I just couldn't be happier with this shifter, especially the way you can tweak all this stuff including being able to move it from side to side (rotational) within the console.

Anybody with a notchy feel while using an MGW shifter probably has the noise coming from the transmission. Try Royal Purple Syncromax.
