Finally getting my childhood car

I'm obvisouly new here but not that new to Mustangs. My first car in HS was a rough '66 coupe. I sold that car soon after I graduated for something more reliable.

Fast forward to this past weekend and I get a call from my grandfather who has been hoarding a 1965 convertible 'stang that started my obsession as a kid. He finally has offered to let me buy the car but wants 5k for it.

The car is in visually decent shape but has been sitting for 10 years in a garage ever since my brother dropped something down the sparkplug hole and started it, causing a terrible miss.

I know I'm probably over paying for it and have a lot of mess to clean up after 10 years of sitting. I just don't see how I can pass up the car I've idolized since I was 8 years old. I'm just not really sure where to start.

5k is a good price IMO if there's no rust... It's a steal.
65 is a good year and a vert is also a great plus. I paid 6k for my 66 coupe.
It did run however.

I'd inspect it first and look for rust; notorious places are under the cowl and in the trunk and underneath the car.
Posting in the tech section to help you get it running again.

I'll work on the pictures. I don't currently have any and the car is 4 hours from me. The car has lead a long indoor life (especially now since it's not running). I can always remember the car being in the garage when I was a kid.

They are the second owner of the car when they bought it used on a lot in 1967. My mom drove it in High school and then my grandfather ended up with it and has had it every since.

pics added!

I picked up the car this weekend!

My Grandfather and I just after we loaded the car. He never smiles.

Hey, only my son calls me sir, as well as the clerks at the market, the counter help at Mickey D's when I order senior coffee, etc.

Wow, that car looks really nice! :nice:

I'm the third owner of my 67 coupe. I even have the original registration papers from the original buyer somewhere.
