7 months ago I had a new throw out bearing, pilot bearing, clutch fork, adjustable clutch cable *no firewall adjuster*, installed because my car was making hissing noise when clutch pedal was fully released, hissing noise stopped with slight pressure on the clutch pedal, so after all those parts installed for 7 months I havnt heard the noise period.

Yesterday I heard it and pulled car in garage to listen while car in nuetral, clutch pedal all the way out *noise*, Rest my foot on the pedal it goes away so slight pressure makes it stop??

I have found that to be the key to the problem, I also noticed my pedal has more free play in it than it did after install so first assumption was maybe it needs to be readjusted which my installer told me it might if I had slipping problems but it drives fine and goes through the gears like butter, its just that damn hissing noise thats so imbarressing, I hear it while driving to it does it only when clutch pedal is out and no load is on the pedal,

IS THE CLUTCH CABLE LITTLE LOOSE SO ITS CAUSING THE THROW OUT BEARING TO TOUCH SOMETHING? THAT IS CAUSING THE NOISE OR WHAT IS CAUSING THIS?? PLEASE HELP ME:SNSign:

I found this on google, sounds like It needs to be adjusted from the sound of this

If slightly adjusting the clutch rod takes care of the noise, then your bearing is not bad and it is just the clutch fork slop causing the noise.

To tell if it is just the clutch rod adjustment, with the truck running and making the noise, just barely touch the clutch peddal with your foot; if the noise stops, just adjust your clutch rod and don't sweat it.

Usually a bad throw out bearing will sound like hell when you apply the clutch to shift gears and not get quiet when you touch the clutch peddal.

Something to add to give you guys more insight, even before I replaced bearings, and clutch fork I had my installer tighten my clutch pedal up some cause it had a lot of play in it and the noise went away for like 4 months, than it came back and I replaced those parts I suspected to be the problem......

So it has to do with my clutch pedal having to much play in it somehow, because when its got hardly any play in it I dont hear nothing, but once it loosens up and the pedal becomes flappy the noise starts.....

As my car sits right now I can take my hand and push maybe 2 inches down on the pedal before it starts getting stiff, those 2 inches are like nothing is attached to the pedal than after 2 inches it gets stiff, So i dont know if those 2 inches are causing the noise because its to much play or what

Hey, I actually think im going through this problem right now, or atleast something similar. I posted a question about a noise in the bellhousing and couldnt figure it out... Anyways, when i barely step on the clutch, the "noise" (sounds like something is metal on metal, rubbing or flapping) goes away. But my issue is that when i completly press down on the clutch, to the ground, the noise comes back. Does the "noise" go up with RPMs? Mine sure as hell does. And its sounds like absolute crap, but the driveablity is just fine, no problems there. My friend and I recently pulled the inspection cover off, and we could see some wear on the pressure plate, but couldnt see the cause. Anyways, I'm fed up with it, and we're pulling the tranny so we can see whats going on.

I actually put a return spring from the end of the fork to the transmission support. I had to punch a hole in the back side of the sheet metal fork cover but it pulls the TB off the surface of the pressure plate, stops the noise and preserves the bearing. The OEM is a bad design IMO.
I wish I had some pictures.

Yea, one more thing I forgot to add. Sometimes there isnt a sound there. But other times, it sounds like the tranny is about to fall out.

But pictures would be great if you have them. We're going to be taking a look at it tomorrow.

The problem Im having is the throw out bearing 100 percent because of the sound, I've been through this before, the thing thats puzzling is now that my clutch pedal has loosened up from use over the last 7 monthes Im assumming it has put enough free play in the clutch cable to cause the throw out bearing to touch or rubb when the pedal is fully out which in sense makes since cause once i rest my foot on the clutch pedal the noise goes away which is in theory moving the bearing off whatever it is causing it to touch so Im assumming I need a readjustment to move the clutch pedal forward some, I heard the clutch pedal should have like 10 pounds of load on the throw out bearing at all times for ford

UPDATE***

Called bunch of transmission shops to ask about what could be causing this and it all goes back to the free play in my pedal, Theirs suppose to be a little load on the throw out bearing at all times, this keeps it snugg, if their isnt any it is loose in their and can cause noise which is why when i put my foot on the pedal adding pressure back to the bearing the noise stops....... so a adjustment should fix my problem

If you guys get a chance today look under the hood and see if your clutch cable where it goes throught he firewall is screwed into the firewall or just mounted snug against it, I noticed my clutch cable where it goes through the firewall doesnt have any screws in it keeping it mounted it is just resting snugg against the firewall? I see 2 screw holes where u screw it down does it matter if their in their? i think my installer forgot or something I gotta bring it up

Im taking it tommorro afternoon to get my clutch cable readjusted to take the slack out of my pedal which will put pressure back on the TOB*, which is basically the samething as resting my foot on the pedal since that cures the problem as of right now till i get it readjusted, thanks for your comments, i'll post tommorro with feedback if it solved the problem, I was told the new ford racing clutch cable would loosen up a little bit after first installed to wear in, so it was inevitable that i would probably have to have it readjusted sooner or later, I just cant believe how imbarressing that hissing sound is, i've been dealing with this problem for awhile almost a year but half that time i went without getting it fixed, than after all the new parts as I mentioned in my first post it went away so hopefully this is the problem solver once and for all cause im getting tired of this im to much of a perfectionist to have a stupid TOB noise i love my car to much

did you ever get that problem fixed?

i cant figure it out, i've just been driving it with my foot barely on the clutch. just resting on it. and im making sure i dont floor the clutch all the way. its a pain, but it beats listening to that noise

OK LAST NIGHT I HAD MY INSTALLER PUT THE CAR ON THE LIFT AND READJUST (TIGHTEN) MY BBK ADJUSTABLE CLUTCH CABLE AND PROBLEM IS FIXED,

The problem for me was My new clutch cable wore in and loosened up taking pressure off the throw out bearing with your foot off the clutch, The throw out bearing has to have pressure on it at all times or you will hear noise, Thats why when you rest your foot on the clutch pedal it goes away because your forcing the bearing up against the pressure plate, So get your clutch cable tightened up you shouldnt feel any play in your pedal at all, if you rest your foot on the pedal you should already begin to feel pressure in it not free play than pressure, that was my problem but I fear it will loosen up again and the reason I say that is because 2 years ago i put a ford racing clutch in it thats heavy duty so I think it puts a real strain on the cable which is why it keeps loosening up over time and the noise comes back from throw out bearing not having pressure on it at all times, but for now problem is fixed and im a happy camper, just get yourself a bbk adjustable clutch cable for the dude that has the same problem as me, im sure your stock cable is wore out from use over the years, if the noise comes back a third time im gonna go to a lighter clutch kit but anyways hope this helps anybody who ever has this problem.

took me almost a year and a half to finally figure out what the heck it was, weird but ford says you gotta have 10 pounds of pressure on the throw out bearing at all time or its loose in their able to rattle and make noise from vibration, and it would be stupid to take it to ford without warrenty because they charge way to much, my installer adjusted it for free

Yea, my friend and I were talking about adjusting the clutch cable a little bit. I dont have the adjustable cable thingy. So it looks like i have to invest a little bit. But it sure beats buying a new throw out bearing and shift fork.

You can manually adjust the stock quadrant one or two clicks tighter to tighten the cable and stop the noise. Set your parking brake, and put your seat all the way back. Look under the dash for the plastic quadrant ( off white in color). It has a square flat area at the bottom. Get a hammer, hold the head of the hammer in your right hand, and put the end of the handle on the flat spot of the quadrant. Push the clutch pedal all the way in with your left hand. Put some pressure on the quadrant with the hammer while you let the pedal back out. When you hear it click once, start the car and see if the noise is gone. If not, adjust it one more click.

I have the bbk clutch kit so I have to jack the car up to adjust since i dont have firewall adjuster so no pulling back on the clutch pedal for me lol but anyways i already fixed my problem just thought i'd add to the comments
