ryan bought some parts for his 05 gt. ( BBK throttle body, BBK CAI, and some other stuff. ) we put the TB and CAI on today and started it. seemed to rev a little funny. took it down the street and got a engine fail safe mood. pulled back into garage and found an exposed wire from the maf meter. fixed that and took like 5 seconds of cranking over to start. shut off..now it wont start. when you turn the key to the on position you can hear the throttle body open up and go wide open. what would cause this? there was a spring and it said to rotate 180* counter clockwise. im prtty sure i did but i may have done it 180* clockwise.

any ideas? going to check TPS tomm (ran out of time tonight) and check that spring as well. any ideas?

It sucks to have to dump a new part but ..... I struggled with a Granatelli TB for weeks before I went back to stock. The Granatelli is still sitting in my attic - I will not even sell it to anyone - it was that painful. The electronics on the S197are just too sensitive to handle any changes in the TB.

My GMS TB was on/off/on/off/on/off . No cel light, throttle wouldn't back off for love or money.
Being that I bought the paperweight, I tried to get it to work. No dice. A Ford tech said it is probably the actuator that Ford doesn't sell separately. Didn't want to try the stock pieces on it. With my luck, I'd have two jagged up TBs. Better mods for the money. Now, it mocks me every time I pull into the garage.

I'd tend to agree. If, when, I get a new intake manifold (C&L or other) I'll go with the GT500 unit. I wish someone would come out with an oval TB for these, like the old cobras.

Kenne Bell and Black Diamond make an oval throttle body for the S197

I dynoed 510 whp with the stock one

I have a friend that dynoed 602 whp and ran a 10.46 with a stock one

I doubt with your mods you you really need an after market throttle body

I have had the BBk 62MM for 2 years with zero problems installed it and clocked the spring myself. The GT500 conversion is slightly larger and has a 65MM opening and flows slightly more than the BBK, so i would go for which ever one you can find a better deal on IMHO. I have heard the horror stories more so for the granatelli unit than the BBK, maybe I got luckly. On a forced induction application you will see gains of hp and tq hands down with a larger throttlebody 10-20 depending on the appliccation. Price to power for this mod especialy if you are boosting is very good, my 2 cents.

The hp/tq numbers in my sig are from udp, cai/bbk tb, sct-xcal-2, cmcdp, and kooks exhuast. Made 263rwhp bone stock. Gained 47rwhp from a halfdozen bolt-ons, worth the money to me!

I have the stock throttle body on my car and made 601whp and 592trq through a 4R70W with a non lock up converter. Here is the dyno sheet.
This is with a fully built long block and a saleen blower.

The car went 10.46 at 131 on the footbrake. We will be using the transbrake tomorrow. I had to upgrade to a Locker cause my transbrake chewed up on the True Trac.

Nice numbers! What boost are you at? Are you still stock stroke and bore? What heads/valves/cams did you go with? Headers?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm trying to decide on a combo so I can get it ordered and installed before the driving season here.

Thanks in advance.

no offense but if the stock throttle body is good to 600 plus horsepower why did Ford bother to go to a bigger one on the GT 500?
