England
Hi all, been awhile since I have been on here. Since I sold my old '99 GT last spring I have been thinking long and hard about it's replacement. I thought about the Mach 1, the 2001 Bullit, Terminator, 2001 Cobra, 2003-04 GT etc....but I have finally made my mind up once and for all. I am looking to get a 2005-2007 S197 GT (GT, GT/CS, Shelby GT) once I finally get back to the states in 3 years.

I have a question though about side scoops. I am aware the GT doesn't have them which is AWESOME!!! I HATE FAKE SCOOPS. But there is the dilemma, I can't stand fake scoops but I really like the GT/CS-Shelby GT. Here at RAF Lakenheath in England we have a new car dealership on base so I have had the privilege to look at a Shelby GT very thoroughly and am absolutely in love with them. About the side scoops they put on them.....how are they attached by CS? Tape? Some sort of fastener such as a bolt? I think it is horrible that they would put side scoops on in a way the ruins the factory lines of the S197....if they use fasteners then that means they have to drill a hole!!!!!

Shame on them! So if anyone can enlighten me on the removal process of those hideous side scoops PLEASE let me know. Oh, and to each's own. If you happen to like side scoops and louvers on your Mustang than fine, don't take offense to my not liking them. Take care Homies! :flag:

I just put these on my car, and I can tell you for a fact that when you try and order these from the ford parts counter they don't come with any special fasteners. They are just held on with 3m tape.

Ouch! Seriously? That blows.

Oh, I'm sure. When I ordered my scoops, I was going to get the CS scoops, since they were original factory parts. When I got them, I saw they came with an install kit that included screws & templates. I asked the body shop to return them, and I ordered some stick-on ones. Why don't I have them on my car? Apparently, there are 3 shades of Legend Lime, and they didn't match it right. I have to take them back to get repainted.

The good news is, they painted my Street Scene rear valance and Xenon tail the right color. The rear valance is on (need to update sig pic), but I think I'm just going to have the body shop put my new tail on, since filling/drilling holes is required.

Well lately I have been thinking pretty hard about this and I really think I'm going to try my first plan prior to searching for an S197 GT. My first plan upon arriving here in England was once I PCS'ed back to America I'd try to find a decent priced Terminator. I really love New Edge Mustangs, and REALLY love the 2003-2004 Cobra front and rear facias.

So I'll keep the S197 GT on a back burner until I try for a Terminator. I was thinking about replacing the stock Terminator side scoops with the ones found on the 2001 Bullitt and replacing the C-Pillars on the Terminator with the Mach 1/Bullitt versions.....they have better lines.

In the past week I have seen CLEAN 2003 Terminators priced at 14,500-15,500 with kinda high mileage (95,000 and up) but still good clean Florida/South Georgia cars. For that price I'd be able to afford a fresh rebuild kit and also have a rust free car. I'm from NW Pennsylvania so even a Mustang from Miami is MUCH better than the rust buckets for sale up north.

If I can't get a Terminator than I'll search for a 2003-2004 GT/Mach 1. If that don't work out then I'll shoot for a 2005-2006 GT. Only time will tell........why oh WHY did Ford install fake scoops????? I like LINES!!! If I wanted scoops I'd buy a European car. Mustang FTW! :flag:

thats the only gripe i've ever had about the new edge design. sexy as heck but fake scoops? i have a 99 and its the only thing that bugs me about the looks of the car.

That's what I had prior to PCSing to England. My old GT was a 1999 5sp and even though it had 102,000 when I bought it (and ugly Euro tailights, which I eventually replaced with stock)...that car was fit as a fiddle. Great cars. Two of my cousins have SN95's and they always said they wish they would have got the New Edge instead. I keep telling both of them to keep their cars cause frankly IMO the old SN95's are sweet rides as well.

My one cousin has a 1997 GT (Pacific Green/Tan) full of mods that he bought from the original owner out in Arizona and the other cousin has a 1998 Cobra (Black/Black)that he bought in southern North Carolina....he just smoked his Borg Warner recently and has been down in the dumps about that.

My brother in law had a 2003 Mach 1 (Oxford White/Black) that I was head over heels about upon seeing it. But, when I think of all the things I'd like to do to a GT.....the answer always comes back to the Terminator. I love the Terminators front & rear bumpers, side skirts and hood. I dig the comfy yet racy look of the Terminators interior. I surely wouldn't complain about having a T-56! :D....

I love that it is forged AND blown, and even though I'm not a HUGE fan of IRS....I suppose I could deal with it. Right now my wife & I have a 2004 Pontiac Vibe and a 1997 Audi A3se. Back home we have a 2000 Eddie Bauer Expy, and I have a 1993 Banshee that I have been storing away for a future "frame off".

This tax season we are tuning up the Vibe (a real tune up...I don't mean a "ricer" tune up...Lol) and replacing the brake pads and tires on the Audi so we can sell it here in a couple months. We were going to sell the Audi in order to buy a genuine Austin Mini but I thought about it and decided that if I ever want to get a Terminator and finish my Banshee that I can't get the Mini.

If I had a Mini then I'd want to shove a VTec in it and do quite a few other mods. The Banshee MUST get done, so no Mini for me. Oh well, I guess we are just going to buy either a Ford Ka or a Nissan Micra. Cheaper than keeping the Audi and making payments on it, we'll buy the other car outright.

When we get home we'll either sell the Vibe or I'll use it as a trade in (unlikely) towards the Terminator as it will be paid off. The Expy? Well, we're not sure what will happen with it...maybe we'll sell it or maybe we'll trade it. Maybe we'll keep it since my wife would only drive it to work and back which wouldn't be very far so its horrible 11mpg wouldn't matter much.

I'm planning on buying a plain, shortbox/reg cab 4x4 pickup to haul my Banshee. Nothing special, probably a 1990-1996 Chevy Silverado/WT1500. I realize I am starting to get :OT:, but writing this helps me figure it all out a little better.

I just wish Ford would have just made the side scoops on the New Edge just like the New Edge FR500 for all the New Edge models....and those that really like that side scoop look could buy stick ons. The car would have had MUCH better lines if they had done that....or they could have made the Bullitt side scoop an option like the "Spoiler Delete" option they currently have. Or they could have made the Bullitt side scoop an aftermarket part on the FRPP site. Just like the aftermarket side scoops for the S197

Trail, I know what you mean about HAVING to finish the banshee. I was about to pull the trigger on either 20" bullitt wheel tire combo or, intake/tuner and window scoops but decided to use that money do a complete engine rebuild on my trx250r, plus port and polish, new razrs, sprokets, chain, etc...sure driving the stang puts a smile on my face but it doesnt compare to my firebreathing 2strokes powerband!

EXACTLY! I feel that exact way. My old GT was a grin machine but it didn't compare to the first time I ever rode a Banshee. My first Banshee was a 2000 but sadly it got stolen by one of my "supposed" friends and I never saw it again. The cops got involved but I never heard anything more about it and that was about 8 years ago....

While being stationed in Georgia I picked up an old 1989 Banshee that had a tweaked frame that had been spray painted by some amateur with some dollar general paint :nonono:. I stripped it down to bare frame and degreased and cleaned everything I was going to keep and sold the rest on the bay for cheap.

I bought a straight 1993 frame from a guy on the bay that had been powdercoated dark candy purple. I bought some nice billet parts and some fresh packing for the powercores that the Banshee came with. My grand plan for the Banshee is this: The frame I have was used for drag racing so the original owner removed the front brake line mounts. I am going to have my cousin weld on some replacement mounts and I'll get the frame powdercoated Dark Shadow Gray (metallic, just like the 'stang) then I'll get the Lone Star A-Arms I have powdercoated gloss Black for the lowers and Candy Blue for the uppers. Tie Rods will get coated gloss black, and the steering stem will get coated candy blue.

I'm not sure about what bars I want for it but right now I have two sets of brand new Renthals for it as well Renthal grips. I'm going to stick with a thumb throttle and install the TORS eliminator kit. Of course I'll rejet the Mikunis it has. I think I'm going to try one of those "Chariot Performance" cool heads for sale on the bay...it'll be anodized blue. My heads are plain silver and I'll add lots of clean billet on the engine. I'm planning on running Yamaha Blue plastics and a 2000 Banshee blue/black seat. I'm not too sure which front shocks I'll get for it....

I'm going to buy a "swingarm shop" swingarm for it (stock size) and get it powder coated chrome. I'm also planning on buying one of those Gforce axles for it as my durablue is pretty well rusted up and ugly, I'll keep it as a spare. Toomey T5's will be my exhaust cause I hear they are the best choice for my engine build. The engine currently is a Trinity 420cc stroker, that has been ported and polished. Wheels will most likely be 8" Hipers for the rear with either Kenda Klaws (18x11x8) or Turf Tamers same size. The front will have either ITP's or stock, no bead locks or anything. Tires for the front will be most likely Pure Sport Bandits, but maybe some holeshots.

Man, Mustangs rule and I love them all but the Banshee is nearest to my heart, and wallet!

ATTN MOD: Can you please move this thread to the 2005 - 2009 (S197) "Talk/Chat"? This thread started out as a general tech question but it has pretty much been answered. Not much else to say. The S197 GT/CS-Shelby GT side scoops apparently are attached via hardware rather than tape. Thanks! Peace everyone!! :flag:
