Can I install a 94 t5 in my 87 coupe

swapping the input is simple.

unbolt the 4 bolts to the retainer, twist and pull the input out. put the bearings from the inside of the shaft to the new shaft. use wheel bearing grease on the inside to hold the bearings in place while you're doing this.

put the new shaft on and then pull the bearing sleeve out of the bearing retainer. ditch the shim that's in there, bolt it all back together and measure the in and out play. Then take more shims, and measure it perfect. For a broken in t5, use 2 thousands preload. Put the proper shims in, silicon the bearing retainer and you're good.

hanlonmotorsports or astroperformance should be able to help you with the shims.

the 87 input won't work in a 94 trans...you'll need a 91-93 input shaft...different gear ratios..you'll nuke your trans if you use the 87 input

astroperformance has them listed on their site. you can also find them used from time to time. If you get a new one, don't forget to pick up a new bearing too. It'll either have to be pressed on or hammered on.

I use old bearing races and a socket to tap mine on. You could likely get creative..just be sure to use a socket that is no bigger in diameter to the bearings inner race.

if you're an ebay person, list up the 94/95 input shaft and your old 87 input for sale. The money will offset the cost of the new one.
