So California
Hello all. I'm now the owner of a 08 GT. Used to have an 01 GT vert. Anyway, I love the V8 grunt and sound, but like most of you, I've become used to the stock mufflers after 1 month. I've seen and heard the very comprehensive sticky and have a few questions about axelback/weld in mufflers. Cost is an issue for me. On my previous GT, I had a bassani catback and loved it. Now I'm married with a 1 year old so I've got to watch the bank acct. I have a hard time justifying paying $350+ for an axelback system that consists of 2.5 feet of piping and mufflers. Guess I've been out of the game for a bit. In the exhaust sticky, my favorite sounding setups are the 40 series flowmaster weld in's and the first MAC axelback link (Black GT). I am not looking for any HP gains, do not plan to chip, intake, gears, or mod the cats. Weld in's: Deep (don't mind drone) sound, but not the type that sound tin canny. The SLP loudmouth are just pipes right? Would it be too loud if I go cheap and replace the stock muffler with a straight pipe and use the OEM tips? So, weld in muffler suggestions. What should I pay for (2) mufflers/best or lowest priced axelback (closest in sound to MAC and 40 ser flow) and for a shop to install. I apologize for the long read and if this particular subject has been brought up before. I visit everyday and envy your modded stangs. Thanks again!

Since power and drone are no issue, go with mac. They will be more aggresive than the flows. I got my Bassani race axle back from LMR for 330 shipped. I had straight pipes aka loudmouths and I didn't care for the sound, it was just to unrefined for me.

The best sounding I've heard on a stock GT are the Boom Tubes. They are made by Mac for Pacifica Performance. I know Brenspeed and others carry them for $299 usually with free shipping. No need to weld, the axelbacks just bolt right up. Do a search on you tube for sound.

How about the ultimate cheap solution, remove the mufflers and have a shop weld in some tips. Several people have done that on here and love it.

Just a suggestion.

Muffler deletes will sound cool for the first couple of months and than you'll realize how bad it really sounds. I'd recommend going with Magnaflow Magnapacks or Bassani Race mufflers. Both are a straight thru muffler design and sound awesome with a O/R X pipe.

the muffler delets sound amazing with stock cats gives that deep loud grunt just like the old days and please if you enjoy muscle car sound dont get a x pipe makes it sound like a muscle 4 banger believe me i know i have the x and hate it but that ok the jba long tubes and o/r h are on the way

I heard some info from Stangzilla100 that some of the baffles in his boomtubes broke giving him a rattling sound in his car. Dissapointed because I was just about to place an order. So I've narrowed it down to 2 selections. The Pypes Violator axelback or this kit 2005-2008 SSS Mustang GT Exhaust System. I have never seen this system before but it looks and sounds terrific (street legal version). It looks like a copy of SLP and Borla. For $299 is seems too good to be true. So the Pypes Violator axelback; is the foam material or whatever is in there going to degrade over time? I know some of you have this setup and I'm wondering how long it's been on and if you can attest to it's sound and craftsmanship/durability. Did/do you really need the SS hanger to make an axelback fit or are the factory rubber hangars okay for fit? Or if the kit from Cruzinconceps is the better buy? $209 for the Pypes Violator axelback looks very attractive to me. This is going to go on my o8 Gt that is and will be stock all the way to the paper air filter. Thanks again.

Pypes Violators will bolt right in - you shouldn't need any new hangers. I hope you don't mind wicked drone at 1600-2000 rpms. They sound awesome otherwise. After a while I couldn't take the drone anymore and laid out the cash for some Corsa Sports.

those SSS off road axle backs sound pretty good too.

He live in CA, he will probably not get away with deletes!! I have Flowmasters on my car right now, but I do have Magnapacks, off road x, and headers waiting to go on the car. I love the sound of the flowmasters but with the ORX it just sounds terrible.
Law enforcement in So cal rarely cite for loud/modified exhaust. Trust me :D. Usually loud stereo's draw more attention to the black and whites (can't hear sirens and take FOREVER to merge to the right).
I'm just looking to hear the exhaust tone more than the engine during revs, and of course a loud bellow outside. I'm okay with the drone. Flowmaster seems to drone like crazy, but aren't too loud on the outside; wonder if the violator setup is like that? I know exhaust threads are annoying but you guys are great with responses. I'll let you all know what my what my indecisive self does and will post a clip if I ever figure out how to use a computer. If Uncle Sam is generous this year, I'll go with cruisinconcepts SSS street legal. If not, pypes violator.
