Looking for a good mustang magazine

  • Sponsors (?)

i beleive theres a fox only magazine but, honestly, they all suck. theyre 80% **** you dont care about. i really hate the amount of readers cars they have. I really dont care that some dude blew $80,000 on his 25 year old car. The mod list is always all the parts from the magazines sponsors. The editorials are cool and the combo buildups and real thorough tests are good for knowledge but its nothing you cant get on the internet. Print is dead.

Ok
I have no idea what any of that means
but I can see that you don't like magazine's.....:shrug:

im sorry i thought you knew what your options were.

that i know of, there is: (that covers foxes regularly)

5.0 mustangs & super fords
muscle mustangs and fast fords
modified mustangs

and thats about all i know of. as i said above, ide go with muscle mustangs and fast fords if i had to, but i let my subscriptions to them all lapse, not worth it.

lol i didnt mean i dont like reading about peooples mustangs here on stangnet or similar websites, because most of us arent willing or capable of just ordering a parts catalog. Most of us get our hands dirty and put our own engineering into our cars. Anyone can write a check and order all the best **** from every aftermarket company, and write another one to have it all installed professionally. I prefer to do my own work, as do ALOT of people here. so thats why i dont buy subscriptions to the mags anymore. ill buy em one at a time if they do a big ass head shootout or something just to have the data, but gone are my teenaged years of lustfully thumbing through the advertisments wishing i could afford it all. just thought id clarify! :flag:

There is no Fox only magazine. Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords, 5.0 and Modified Mustangs and Fords are all owned by Source Interlink Media and generally offer very little Fox coverage and a lot of the same crap. In their defense, the April issue of 5.0 has a BUNCH of Fox stuff, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Fox platform. Also, MM&FF did a "79-93 Mustang Performance" issue last year that was a bunch of rehashed articles from past years and dealt specifically with Fox cars. You can still find it on newsstands if you look around a little. Before they became Modified Mustangs and Fords, Modified was the most consistent with articles about our cars. It seemed like they made a concious effort to feature one S197, one New Edge, one SN95 and one Fox each month. Since the new format hit, that has all gone away.

Mustang Enthusiast is the only other Mustang rag that specializes in late model stuff and it isn't owned by SIM. They show some Foxes, but they're much more about "show" than "nuts and bolts". You'll see a lot of V6 New Edge cars with a cold air, bagged suspension and a sound system that will blow the windows out, rather than cylinder head comparo's or blower tech.

Legendary Fords magazine is another independent, but it is aimed at the "classic" crowd.

If you join the Mustang Club of America you'll get Mustang Times 12 times a year. It's a nice magazine and occasionally features a Fox or two.

That's literally all there is. 5.SLOW may have been blunt, but he's not too far off the mark. I've let my subscriptions to both MMFF & 5.0 lapse after subscribing to both for 10 years. I had just re-upped for a 3-year subscription to Modified right before they changed their format. If it had changed prior to that, I would have let it go too. Enthusiast is "okay" for bathroom material, but that's about it.

Yeah, as far as a real print mag, we covered most of this discussion in a thread called 5.0 majority couple months ago- there ain't one, and the publishers don't think we need one. We're trying to throw something together in a sticky here, using the material the mags had run years back, that lots of guys(most, I would think) have never seen. Its a work in progress. I let all my subscriptions drop, to Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords, 5.0, Mustang Enthusiast when all the publishers thought the newest, most expensive, thing was what I wanted, and I must've wasted 30 large+on a new car to put it on. For the moment, Fox guys are unrepresented, and Suzy won't let me start my own. The best info can be found here, anymore.

Well let me be the first to say I think that 5.0 is a great mag. I have subscribed since 1996 and wont let mine lapse.

I think there is benefit to the info provided as they are held to a standard for what they print. Both by the guys here on this forum and many others as well as by company owners. Anyone on here can have an opinion and or their "knowledge" and can lead you astray and will always be biased, myself include.

I don't necessarily enjoy the walls in my bathroom and you wont find me enjoying the latest home and garden mag, so I wont pitch a bitch about the content of these mags. I enjoy it for what it is and think most should as well. Logically from a business standpoint, there are more sn-95 and s-197's on the road so they cover those more. If business doesn't move forward, it dies plain and simple. If any of those mags didn't change with trends these folks wouldn't have these enlightened opinions to share as these magazines would be extinct.

All that said, my suggestion is to grab one of each from the shelf at your local store and decide for yourself. You will get the feel of the mag from just one.

Ford made more than five times the number of Fox body cars than they have made S197's, so that "logic" doesn't fly. What does drive the content of the magazine are two things: advertising dollars and reader desire. The companies that are giving the magazine product to do articles and money to advertise are the companies that are making stuff for the new cars, so we get new car content. There are very few companies coming out with new stuff for 79-93, so we get left out. Reader desire is now coming to the forefront. I believe that the editors and publishers of these rags are seeing their circulation decline because we're all dropping out and they frequent these boards. As a result of that, we're getting these Fox-specific issues that I mentioned in my earlier post.

Oh, and Steve, Marc, or any other magazine guys that might read this, I and all of my Fox friends have bought both of the Fox-specific issues off the newsstand and would re-subscribe to both your magazines if the Fox content continues.

I used to be really into 5.0SF and MMFF, but the last couple years the magazine articles get worse and they are half the size of what they used to be and cost more money, i think a year of MMFF is like 35 bucks, come on thats borderline rediculous. Lately HOT ROD can CAR CRAFT are where its at, CAR CRAFT has some really good how-to articles and does stuff on the cheap, and HOT ROD covers all of the stuff i hope to one day be able to afford... Plus they have drag week and the pumpgas drags which are awesome. CC and HR feel alot mor genuine to me, like the guys that work there really love what they are doing, and it shows in the prints.

I just got the April(interesting, thats not what the calendar says) 5.0, glad to see they found some Fox stuff to put in a mag with 5.0 across the top. Source Interlink must be listening. Of course, one issue a year will help with the clutter problem at the house, and I'll still be able to save my subscription $ for when they show they might be serious about the people that gave them their huge publishing conglomerate, and a piece of a hobby to write about. I like the NMRA schedule, though, it'd prolly be three races long, at one event, without the Fox's that founded it, if it existed at all.

Agreed. That is the yearly subscription rate that I was quoted when they were trying to get me back. However, in the April 5.0 was a blow in card for one year of both MMFF and 5.0 for a grand total of fifteen bucks. I'm seriously considering sending it in. $7.50 a year is almost worth it.

I dropped my Subscriptions years ago on the Mustang Mags as the Fox Content just seemed to have disappeared. Have had a subscription to Hot Rod since I canceled the Stang Mags, its a pretty good Magazine.

You surf the net while you're taking a ****?

Gotta have something for the bathroom, man.

I prefer "Modified Mustangs and Fords". They combined with another mag, and now they cover all fords classic to current.

And I actually like looking at the advertisements. I even have a Summit catalog in my bathroom.

I just received my first issue from both mags, and you really cannot argue for $15 dollars for two mags. Nice to have laying around when there is nothing on TV.

I let all of my Mustang specific rags expire a couple of years ago. Like others here have said, I get almost as much relevant Mustang info from Hotrod (which I now subscribe to) as I did from the Mustang rags. I'm going to look into Car Craft.
