Supporting Parts for Vortech?

I've finally saved up enough money to go supercharged soon. I'm either getting a Vortech V1 S-trim or a V2 SQ-trim depending on which one I can get a better deal on. I want to run 8psi. I know I'm going to need the following list of supporting parts, but am I missing anything. Will I need an in-line pump to support the 255 in-tank pump? Also, do the vortech kits come with a 6psi pulley and an 8psi pulley? Or do they only come with a 6#? Since the kit comes with a new crank pulley and the blower has a seperate belt for the supercharger and the crank, can I still run underdrive pullies on the alternator and waterpump or should I put the stock pullies back on? Please let me know anything I'm missing here.

Parts I'll Need: 90mm Lightning maf w/adapter for OBDI
255 in-tank pump
42Lb injectors

The car will be tuned by SGS in Dillsburg, PA

Thanks for the help.

I can't say for certain but doesn't the SQ build boost sooner

Just throwing that out there as it seems like I saw that somewhere

Then again ... if that is true ... the difference may not be all that much

The fuel upgrades, meter, and tune is how I would do it :nice:

I like the whine of the V1 most of all. Long time ago when I was supercharged. I got my Vortech V1 head unit on ebay for $600 and it was newly rebuilt. I bought all the other brackets and stuff from superchargersonline.com I believe. It came out cheaper than a brand new kit.

Hey Grady,
I've also heard the sq builds power sooner and it's much quieter to boot(which are both very attractive to me). But right now it looks like I can get the V1 S-trim for $500 less. That's a big chunk of change I can use towards the Maf, pump, and injectors.

Anyway, back to the other parts of my question. Will I still be able to use underdrive pullies on the alternator and water pump since the supercharger runs off a seperate belt from the crank? Also, do these Vortech kits come with two supercharger pullies, one for 6#'s of boost and one for 8#'s? Someone told me theirs did, but they only show one pulley in the pictures I've seen of these kits.
And lastly, will I need an in-line pump to support the 255 in-tank pump? I don't think I would since I'm only going to run 8Lbs of boost. Hopefully I can make somewhere around 350 or more at the wheels when all is said and done.

It only comes with one pulley (3.33"). I made 8 pounds with it. If you buy the Hi pressure 255lph pump you will not need an inline. You cannot use underdrive pullies as it changes the crank pulley as well when it adds the blower pulley, its one piece. I made 325 with mine when I was stock with full exhaust.

I looked into piecing a system together myself. Right now it seems that used head units are going for around $1,000 on Ebay. I didn't think I would be able to piece it together and spend less. I wish I could find a tuner kit that eliminated the FMU and T-Rex. I've seen some, but the websites that sell them charge about the same price as a full kit. I can get a full V1 S-trim kit on Ebay for $2,450 with free shipping. Plus, I think vortech might still be giving a $250 mail in rebate. That deal is better than any other I've seen for a new kit for our 94-95's.

Thanks for answering my other questions. By high pressure 255lph pump do you mean ones that are designed for superchargers? How do they differ from a regular 255? I think I've seen them in a Summit catalog. Could you recommend one for me? 325 is very good, especially if you had the stock E7 heads and GT intake.

You might want to look into the 93 cobra water pump pulley. Its smaller and will flow more water. I used it on mine and so does RC. The only thing you will have to do to make it fit is drill out the center a little.

I can't say it is the same these days but there used to be two types
of Walbro 255 lph pumps

1) High Volume is pn GSS307
2) High Pressure is pn GSS340

That info is from my files but be advised it is dated back in 1999 so
things may have changed since then

Still holds true. I purchased the GSS307 without knowing and it cannot support the power I am making now, let alone if I upgrade.

if you piecing together a kit it's hard to say all the thing's you'll need to purchase. if your just getting the bracketing and head unit, you'll need the fuel pump, injectors, maf like you've already said. boost gauge is a good idea too. the tune is very important. if it was me, i'd also look into a MSD 6al and maybe a new coil. you'll need spark plugs one range colder than stock. thats all i can think of at the moment.

So you're saying I need the high pressure pump and not the high volume, correct?

As far as ignition goes, I have a blaster coil and superconductor wires. How important is the 6al module? Can I do without it? Also, I noticed that the kits come with a boost retard/advance ignition control. I wouldn't need this because I'm getting a tune right? I would assume that the tuner would set ignition based on my rpm and load?

Thank God I saved my stock pullies because the waterpump pulley for these cars is hard to get. I think I will stay with my stock pump pulley. I never had issues with overheating, especially since I have a 180* T-stat and my car was tuned to have the fans kick on sooner. I actually installed a stock radiator because my crappy Mishimoto was leaking like 3 months after I put it in. It's actually a bit cooler with the stock rad.

Yes ... For a power adder combo you'd want the 255 high pressure :nice:

The high volume unit is more geared toward NA combos

I myself opted to use the high volume :)

Way back when I put my combo together very little was known about
tuning and most peeps were doing the mechanical afpr thing

You saw many blown combo owners complain about not being able to
get their fuel pressure down at low pulse width conditions :bang:

After some research on my part and a call to Walbro ......
the choice was easily made :D

Ok, great guys. Thanks a bunch for the help. I forgot to ask one more question. Will I need an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and which one would you suggest? I'm getting the car dyno-tuned of course, but will the stock fpr max out even with tuning?

It looks like I'm going with the V1-S trim because the prices have dropped on these kits and they are at least $500 cheaper than the V2-SQ. So far (with your help) I know I'll need:
255 Walbro high pressure in tank GSS340
Lightning 90mm maf w/ late model adapter
msd 6al ignition module
42# injectors

Man, I hope there's nothing else:eek:

At least I can sell my BBK CAI, ud pullies and 24# injectors to make a tiny tiny dent in the cost. :notnice:

I thought the same thing when i bought the tuner kit, but when i said the v1 because the head unit was cheaper, the guy said i could get either the v1-v2 or the v3 head unit with that kit with no price change. Not sure if he was just giving me a deal or what but thats what i was told ;p

If you don't mind me asking, where did you find this tuner kit? Were the prices decent? I would love to eliminate the FMU, T-rex, and MSD BTM because I won't be using any of it.
