I am trying to decide on which gear set to get. I have gone through most of the forum and there isnt much talk about 5 speeds with gear questions. I have an 08 GT with pypes x pipe, magnaflow magnapacks and bbk CAI. This is my daily driver. About half city and half highway miles. What gears would you guys recommend for my application?

as mentioned above...to give you an idea with 3.31's at 70 mph I was at 1800 rpms and now I'm at 2200 with the newly installed 4.10's last friday. Not that ibg of a jump IMO but if you go with a power adder it may be a bit much gear as far as traction goes or possibly running out of gear on teh big end. Also you could always go with a taller tire to help compensate for the high gear ratio as well.

4.10's are the #1 choice for 2005+ GT's that stay naturally aspirated.

3.73's are a great with most superchargers as blowers already makes so much power that you don't really need the extra torque multiplication provided by steeper gears.

I have 4.10's with my supercharger and it rips through the gears a bit too quickly. Luckily I have an automatic, so I can leave it in drive at the dragstrip and let the computer deal with the lightning fast shifts.

I plan on staying NA so i guess i'll go with 4.10's. A blower isn't in the plans for a few years into the future after my kid is a little older. eventually i'll get some forced induction. thanx for the advice

I'm gettin em installed at excessive motorsports in northern VA. I've heard good thing about them. Anyone had any experience with them? Should I throw on a throttle body too or is the stock one good enough ?

The stock throttle body can flow more than enough for most bolt on mods you might consider. With forced induction and/or ported heads with big cams, you might need a little more flow than the stock TB can provide, but you should be good for quite awhile with the stock TB.

Personally, I haven't seen anything real positive on here when people go to the steeper gears. For the cost and wear and tear, its gained them what, maybe 2 tenths? Have any of you been to the track before and after with this change only? I didn't think it was worth it after I looked into it.
just my .02

depending on the set up with good traction i've seen as much as a half second off with a gear change.

from the 3.08s that i had in my last stang to the 3.73s that i put in it it really woke it up.

+ for the 300 or so it is for the gears + install kit if you can do it yourself, i forget its been a while since i looked may be more. but for the money you can't beat the gains you get..

i can't think of anything thats that price that gives you the same gains.

i haven't driven a stock s197 at the track but with the 3.55s i think they stay in 3rd till the end of the 1/4. with 3.73s it is probably enough to have to shift into 4th, and 4.10s i think i'm right in the middle of 4th. i wanna go with 4.56s if i build up my rear.

I went with 3.73's in my 06 Auto and am pretty pleased with them, in fact glad I didn't go 4.10's, I think it would have just been too much gear.

As it is I find it just enough to improve the scoot in the middle of the power band and obviously off the line and on the highway it's not cycling too high. I do find though that driving around in town is a little more awkward, if only because with a 93 Brenspeed tune and these gears (among my other mods) the car is rather frisky and in slow traffic it's a little bit of a PITA because it likes to (and wants to) move when you tip into the throttle.

I have no immediate plans for it but I had some long long term vision that I could end up with a blower at some point so that too lent me to not go any higher than 3.73's.

All that being said, if I was able to get 3.55's from the factory I don't think I would have done any gear upgrade at all.

Edit - As mentioned above another reason I went with 3.73's was also to help get the car to the end of the 1/4 a little further into 4th. I was always pleased with my ET in general as I modded my car but it always shifted into 4th just short of the line and the car always lost a bit of momentum. So hopefully when I make it back this will help my 60' improve a little and keep me in a better bit of the powerband as I cross the 1/4.

I went with 4:10's. Mine is a daily driver 5 speed with a supercharger. You won't be disappointed. If i had to go back i would have done 4:10's first before any other mod. It really wakes the car up. I had a hard time between the two gears also but everyone i talked to said you would not feel that much of a difference between the 3:55's i had and the 3:73's, that's why i went with 4:10's and glad i did.

I just got some 4.10s' put in and I think I could have went with a 4.30. Not a huge difference than my 3.55s. I drive mostly freeway miles. About 20 miles to work. I would just have to drive a little slower on the freeway. I was crusing at between 80-90 with the 3.55s. Now between 75-80. I think thats probably fast enough. I never really look at the speedo on the freeway. I just speed up until the RPM sounds right. Now I'm just going a little slower. I think (I could be wrong), stoplight to stoplight, 4.30s would be perfect and if I did it again I would have got 4.30s since light to light is what I care most about anyways. My 5.0 was brutal with 4.10s with a TCI streetfighter auto trans. Scratched going into 3rd. Bottom line,, I barely feel the difference between the 3.55s and the 4.10s. I just go through 1st gear REALLY fast...
