I am thinking about buying a pair of these, I have read reviews and seem like just what i'm looking for. Hope to buy and mount them in the next month when the weather is a little warmer. I'm going to run 255/40 kdw 2's up front with 275/40 in the back. I was just wondering if anyone has any opinions on these good or bad. From what I read best drag radial for a DD out there.

There are many reports of people getting 15k out of them, that is about the life I would have got out of my kdw 2 on the rear, maybe 20k but that would of been about it. I didn't go to the track last year but plan on going a few times this year and want a sticky tire when I go

It's a 100 treadwear rating, no need for these unless it's pertinent to stay on the road with the amount of power you have.

+1... They dont even hook that great to begin with & for the amount of power your car has, KDW2's in the rear are just fine IMO, & they will last a hell of alot longer.... If u need tires for the track, just get a set of 15" rear wheels & throw some ET streets on em'...

My car hooks just fine on the street with KDW2's in the rear.

15k miles must have been someone never doing any burnout's.... I have gotten 25k miles on my last rear KDW2's & that was with donuts, burnouts, etc. If I would have never driven aggressively with them, I bet I could easily get 30k out of them. My fronts have about 30k on them now & they are still going...... they last A LOT longer than drag radials.

They don't make kdw 2 in 275 form, at least not the new tread type that i'm looking for otherwise I would by the kdw 2's again cause I liked the tire. O and 3.73's will be going in over the summer

Epik pretty much nailed it.

Nittos don't perform much, if any better on the street. They are designed to be heated, and need a nice burnout to work properly. I've gone through a few sets of them, and went with a bfg drag radial on a different wheel for the track and street tires for the street. Much better.

Well this seems pretty unanimous, what street tire then, without breaking the bank, would like to stay under $200 a tire. 275/40 most likely I don't want to go more narrow because i like the fact that the tire protects the rim a little from curb rash and scrapes

Nitto’s are going to be BY FAR your best option for the best blend of traction and mileage. I’ve owned 3 set’s and each one has lasted me ~20k miles. Each set had a MINIMUM of 50 dragstrip passes on them along with the required 5-10 second burnout. Getting 15k miles out of them shouldn’t be too tough at all….although when they reach 15k miles they will likely be at or below the treadwear. I of course run mine until bald…as I don’t drive in the rain. Even so, up until the 15k mile mark they continue to have good traction in the wet.

They BY FAR hooked better than any standard radial tire both on the street and the track, and I stand by my choice that for any stang I daily drive during spring/summer/fall, they will be the only shoe’s I’ll wear.

I had the bfg kdw's on my old mustang. Gears/Exhaust/Intake and it hooked to a 1.9 60' and went 13.4 at 103. I think those street tires will be plenty for you. I have 315 nittos on my current car, but with the blower its a dif. monster for sure. I dont drive hard on the street, so my next set will probably be just a set of regular 315's if I can find them. IF you need track tires, then get TRACK tires for the track. One thing I hate about the nitto's is they pick up everything under the sun laying on the road and I am tired of hearing little rocks etc. fly all around when I drive

Well i already have my stock rims that I plan on using as my winter set. I just really don't want 6 rims laying around if i go with buying a set for just the track. If i do go with having a set of rims for the track i'm going with MT streets.

I've got wimpy 275/40 nitto 555r on the rear of my car, and I will say they're very inconsistent at the track. One time they grab halfway decent, another not so much. But I will say this: they eliminated alot of the irs related wheelhop on the street I was experiencing before with bfg street tires out rear.

Of course, keep in mind, they don't like cold weather and do need a big burnout at the strip. I've got about 5000 dd miles and 3 1/4 runs (with a big burnout before each pass) and they're about cooked. I think I'm going 315s on a 10.5" rim real soon. At least I did manage a somewhat decent 11.88 on the 275s. Hopefully 315s will take it deeper.

I’m just wondering how in the hell you only managed 5000 miles out of them!?! Even running with my setup in my sig I was able to get 15k+ miles out of a set!

I would assume with his cobra vert weighing in much more then your car would def. play a difference in tread wear. just like trucks, take example of a bfg at tire on a Dodge 1500, compared to a dodge 2500....the 2500 being heavier wears ALOT faster, example friend got 30k out of them and they were shot, but another friend with a 1500 got 55k out of them.

weight is a factor, so is power and tq levels. My 04 car makes 493 ft lbs to the wheel at as low as 2100 rpms....it is very temtping to blast around all the time, and sometimes thats exactly what i do

other factors are road surface composition in your area......concrete surfaces tend to be sand paper like in consistency while smooth asphalt is alot less stressful on tire life.

I don't think that has much to do with it, as I have known several 03-04 cobra owners get great mileage out of their Nitto's.

I hear ya, but I too make GOBB'S of torque down low too and never experienced tread-wear like you. I always laid into it when I got a chance. I could see how concrete can be detrimental in comparison to asphalt, but unless you are driving on nothing else but concrete and spinning everywhere you go…..I just can see a 10k mile tread decrease! Unless of course you are one of those who pitch’s the tires before you get to the tread-wear indicators?
