Does anyone know if an explorer a4ld can be swapped into a 2.3l stang? I know it is not a direct replacement but I don't know what the specific differances are between the two transmissions. I thought I might be able to swap parts between the two to put in the explorer a4ld.

Im pretty sure its the same tranny. My mustang has the A4LD transmission and if your explorer has the 2.3 in it, should be an easy swap. The only thing im not sure about is if there is any different gearing between the mustang and explorer trans. Hope this helps.

On the a4ld you need to match the year and/or, the number of solenoids so that the puter will operate it correctly.

Also, I would check that the bellhousing patterns are the same, as I not think they are the same.

No, an explorer transmission will not bolt onto your 2.3 and it can't be made to work reasonably. The solution is to swap the exploder transmission internals into the 2.3 A4ld case. Your best bet would be to find a transmission shop that can build an A4ld using explorer internals. Personally, I don't think it is worth while. It will still be limited to around 300rwhp and the origional design is still from the French. :p
