So CAL
so after about 3 months of a money being saved for other things(my new 08 GT stang)...its time to start building a 408w for my 67. so far i have the short block and im probably ordering the AFR185 heads this week. now, as for carb, intake, and cam im not sure yet. and thats why im here, im going to use a PA C4. with 373s . the car is not going to be a daily driver more as a weekend/strip. im looking for about 450hp on the motor. the block is a roller block. so what carb intake and cam should i consider?

I'm sure there are many awesome combos out there. I am sure some better than mine, but I'll give you my combo.

69 block with scat cast crank, hbeams, probe forged 10-1 compression pistons
Vic jr heads that I ported a bit myself. vic jr intake with prosystems 950hp
1 3/4 headers with 3" exhaust
custom FTI Ed Curtis hydrolic roller cam that is very mild for a 408. .586 lift.
pa c-4 with 4.56 gears, but I also have 31" tall tires. Cruises down the road at 60mph at around 2800rpm. Car has full interior with cd player and everything. 3350lbs. Runs on 91 oct fuel with zero problems, and ran a best of [email protected]. I had this same motor in my stock 70 mach also but had a perf rpm, junk 750 rusty holley, 1 5/8 headers, and a real tight 3000 converter, stock suspension and all and with the et streets, it ran a best of 11.39@118.

block were from

I was really hot do to this too until I realized that I wouldn't be able to find a stock short block cheap enough to make having it machined and checked any cheaper than buying a brand new short block. And then after looking for a new block couldnt find anything that was cheap enough or had the right crank and piston combo.

So my big question is where did you get your 351w shortblock from and if used, arent you going to have it checked for cracks and prepped?

A "mild" 408 that does 10s! It doesn't get much better than that. Not to hijack the thread, but what are you using for traction control and still able to keep it stock looking (full interior)? I assume the 31" tires are slicks? Since I live down the road from MIR, I'm gonna have to take it to the strip at least once this year, but I don't want to go through a lot of effort changing the set up from daily driver or open track ready.

As far as what parts for vtec to use, since you're planning on 185 heads, I'd match that up with a Weiand Stealth, Performer RPM or RPM Air Gap with the divider milled half way down. Add a hyd roller in the .570 to 580 lift range with either a 110 or 112 lsa. Your motor will be all in by 5700 rpm. A basic Holley/Demon/Quickfuel 750 Vac Sec carb would top it off nicely.

no go ahead a hijack it ....hahaha...that was a good question because i was gonna ask jasonn the same thing, how are you getting all that power down?....and as for the engine you guys think i should go with the 185s? or the 205s? and what hp and 1/4 mile times can i realistically expect?

Since it is a pro street car, it does have a 4 link. But it has a full interior (except for the back seat. I still have the stock dash and guages, heater, door panels, front seats, carpet, The rear is steel tubs and steel tinwork so I didn't loose any weight there. Still weighed in at 3350lbs w/me, where my stock bodied mach weighed at 3400lbs w/me. Back is even all carpeted. I even cut up most of the rear interor and fit most of it all in there. It also has a 4 speaker stereo system with cd player. I guess I consider that full interior since all it is really missing is the rear seat, cause it is not a race car with nothing in it and all tin, no dash, no doorpanels, or anything. Some may not, but oh well lol. I drive it all over yet. The tires are hoosier quick time pros which are the same as e.t. streets. dot legal. With exhaust. - Same motor, but with smaller carb, smaller intake, smaller headers, and a REAL tight converter ran a 11.39 when it was in my mach. That car is all stock outside except for the wheels, Full, completely stock (interior except for the addition of guages and a cd player), and stock (still stock leafs) suspension. I am sure I could have got that car in the real high 10's with that car, but didn't really want to go any faster cause I really didn't want to cut that one up or put a cage in it or anything, so I left the small parts on the motor. To get that car to hook, it has the real cheap adj. front and rear shocks and caltracks. When I would race it I had a 28x10.5-15 et streets.

Hey Jason what was your 351w combo. A 351w going 12.5s sounds impressive!

Stock block, crank, rods. Some cheap speedpro hypereutectic pistons with the stock compression ratio. Stock heads that I ported myself when I was like 18 years old. Perf rpm intake with a rusty old 750 d.p. 1 5/8 headers, and a solid flat tappet cam from Ultradyne. Specs are 276, 284 ad. dur (don't remember #'s @ .050) .552, .565 lift, but with .028 lash, the lobe lift is .524, .537. c-4 with 2800 converter, and 4.11 gears with the 28x10.5-15 et streets.
