Actually it goes deeper than that:
CD3:
Mazda6, Fusion, Edge, Milan, MKZ, MKX, Mazda CX-9,
D3:
500, Montego, Taurus, Sable (now discontinued), MKS, MKT, Flex, soon: Explorer, Volvo XC90
I have nothing against shared platforms, but they should at least make a really good base platform and use that across the board. The Volvo designed D3 is a VERY bloated chassis, 4000+ lb curb weight, extreme understeer, etc... but the Mazda designed CD3 is exceptionally good. The Ford/Volvo/Mazda joint designed C1 is used in compact cars like the Mazda3, Mazda CX-7, Ford Kuga, Ford Transit, Volvo C30/C70/S40, Mazda5, and the non-USA Ford Focus from 2004-up.
The USA Ford Focus is STILL made on the 1998 C170 chassis - total rubbish. The Europeans are getting a 300 hp Ford Focus RS and we have a 11 year old Focus with fake fender vents and LED lights for the cupholders.
