Top End vs Bottom End

I am trying to get my motor build planned out and would like some helpful comments. 68 coupe with original 289 2v. I am looking at a top end build kit from Summit. My question is can I keep the bottom end stock or should I build it up also.

The stock rods, pistons and crank will stand a good beating. Unless you're going to rev it over 7 grand and the rotating assembly has high mileage, leave it be.

Thanks D, that saves me a couple grand. And Im not trying to race or anything. Gonna be a weekend driver, just like the dependability of efi but want some power for when that teenager with the camaro pulls beside me at a red light.:D
