No worries here, the oldest tires I have are from 1992 and they have been in covered storage most of that time.
At least my trailer has all new tires because the new ones before them blew out.

I had a 79 Mercedez come in the yard with (342) tires. 
That's the 34th week of 1992!! They still held air. I took the tires off the wheels and they weren't even rotted. It all depends on storage and the brand of tire.

They say that some of the date markings are only on the inside, it wasn't a directional tire.....

Basic thing you want to look for when buying a set of tires that are not brand new, is any signs of weather cracking, if there is any at all on any part of the tire, do not buy them. You can run tires that are 10 years old or older just fine so long as they have been taken care of (stored inside out of the elements). If they're left outside and exposed to water, sunlight they will rot. I work for the largest independant tire dealer in the us and we sell older tires all the time, but we make sure they are in good condition and were stored properly, they also come with the same warranty that brand new tires come with and after 8 years, I've seen zero problems. So needing to replace your tires just because of the age of the tire, is complete bs. If any of you have any ?'s about tires or anything feel free to pm me and ask

I don't agree, but neither of us are actually tire makers. Your car your choice. We deal with 2 major warehouses about 30 min from us. They service most of the dealers in our area, and we might get a set of tires that were made in 05-06. That's pretty rare though. We choose to not install them. So to say if there stored properly
. We don't have problem getting older tires. Also we don't sell used tires. We have different type of clients. Our clients depend on us to be the professionals to lead them with the correct choice for their vehicle needs. They rely on us to make them safe, not by selling the most expensive, but the best fitted tire. We deal with more Mercedes, BMW's, ect... but also deal with a lot of Buick's, and other mid-range cars. When I get someone that has a car like ours and is looking for something cheap, and yes sometimes the 1st thing they ask is, do ya have used tires? The answer is no. But let me see what else we can get to get you close to your budget. We don't win them all, and that's fine. We don't want to put ourselves in a situation with questionable tires. We are ok to let some one else take that risk.
There are so many other tire brands out there, that we should be able to get close on the $$, even if it's an off brand.
It's kinda funny that this thread is here. Just sold a set of Michelin's on a Z71, 1990 year. This truck stays out at their farm and we sold them the tires that were on there in 1999

They are only on one side. Depending which side you mount outward/inward. I've seen directional Goodyears marked on the outside, and others marked on the inside. Depends what year they were made. My friends 98 Cobra is like this. I looked at it for him Saturday.

I checked my GFs Mercedes she just bought. both fronts are from 32-43rd week of '08, and the rears were from similar weeks in 05. Still some time left on the rears, but interesting to see.
It is also interested to see the new '09 E63 on the dealer floor had all model year 08 tires, but all different months. I would have figured they would be all from the same run of tires, but I guess not.

25TH usually the tires are a year older than the car. At least from what we see. We devirginize many cars, suv's and trucks of there 1st service. Very rare do we see the dates the same as the year on the vehicle.
Another note, most tire manufactures will not offer a mileage warranty on original equipment tires. But you can replace your tires with the same type you had on there and they will come with a mileage warranty if that specific tire has a published mileage warranty. Kinda weird huh. I know Bridgestone/Firestone will not honor a mileage warranty on there's if they are O.E. .. I tried to help someone out, and was told that directly from BRSTN.

no harm no foul, but we serve the same clientell, we work on everything from kia's to exotic's and believe me if its questionable, we wont sell it either, but just because the tires a few years old, doesnt mean its in bad condition. There's original 60's muscle cars running on the original bias ply tires and there perfectly safe (well as safe as a bias ply tire can be
) but they've been stored indoors, out of sunlight, and away from moisture. Most of this alert is stemming from Rv's where most of them are parke outside in the sun and rain for the better part of the year and only driven on a few thousand miles a year. The tires rot out long before the tread wears down and so there has been a rash of accidents involving rv's blowing tires out and wrecking, then they started looking at smaller vehicles and doing tests, but most of the tires they tested with were either used tires, or older tires that were not stored properly I do agree with you though, dont buy the cheapest tire, buy the right tire for you and your application.Similar threads
