Rear end trouble

I'm trying to put in "what I thought" was a 8 inch 67 rear end in my 68 coupe. Everything fits and looks good except there is only one hole on the leaf spring perches and it is in the forward part of the perch. The rear end i took out had two holes in each perch one in the front and one in the middle. The rear end doesn't look right when it is placed over the leaf spring bolt as is, the angle is too steep plus i can't fasten the U-bolts around it because the shock mounting plate underneath doesn't match the bolt sticking down from the leaf spring. I hoped this makes sense.

The suspension is brand new and look exactly like the old

Does anybody have an explanation for this? Does anybody have advice on how to fix this?

I've never owned a 69 or later mustang but I've read that the perches are wider. I can't explain your pinion angle other than it may look out of wack because the rear end is sagging down onto the leafs. You may have to weld on new spring perches. I've done it before and used a 3 deg angle. You can cut your old perches off with a plasma cutter or order new ones. You might also find a local driveline shop that has them in stock. If you cannot weld or get the right agles, have the driveline shop set the pinion angle up for you.

Those springs in the pic look different......

Then the ones you took off unless it`s just a bad angle or something. 2 things caught my attention, the position of the centering peg for the spring perch on the new leafs in relation to the old.

And the position of the bump stop in relation to the axle looks wrong.

Could just be the angle of the pics but I`d double check anyway.

I agree based on the picture. Looking at the 2 new leafs side by side, they appear to be different lenngth. Maybe it is just the angle the pic was shot at, but something doesn't look right. I would double check the part numbers you received versus what was ordered just to be sure they didn't ship you the wrong parts. Happens all too much unfortunately.

I've NEVER seen ANY Ford rearend that wasn't mounted centered over the leaf spring locating pin. Check your perches again. If there really is no hole in the center, they've probably been replaced at some point. You can new perches at any number of places.
