Making my mustang more manly.

Although it doesn't quite bother me too much. Lately people have been commenting on my car being a girls car. Comments like "When are you gunna change the color?" and "Yea you drive a girls car." and ****. I'm used to it.

Although my stock 94 GT can probably beat any of their cars already, I would still like to make it look and perform a little more manly.

A little background. New to forums of course. In 2005 my father and I was looking for a car for me, I was around 17. I was expecting some 4 cylinder average car, until my father spotted a flawless teal 94 GT with a white soft-top.

The car was immaculate, it was an older female who drove it and garage kept it. Paint is still immaculate, only 23,000 miles when I got it. And right now its at about 48,600. Paid $7,250 for it. Still good. Runs strong and have not ran into much problems. Had to get a new rack and pinion cause mine was squeeking like a mother *****er for a while.

Clean all around, the white soft-top is still bleach white, everything is original.

My Plans:

Performance: (money's tight)
-Full exhaust, maybe shorty headers, looking at either straight pipes or H pipes with an SLP Loudmouth I or II. I like the noise they make.
-Lowering springs, to give it a nice height.
-Already have a CAI on order.
-Some other inexpensive bolt-ons (maybe I could get some suggestions from you veterans)
-Seeing it with a supercharger in the future.

Exterior:
-As for rims, I was thinking of going with a nice chrome lipped with a white face rim (to match the white top). The rears would have to be deep-dish. I liked the way the FR500's look, if only they made them with a white face, and keep the lip chrome.
-Changing the head lights to the clear looking ones.
-Might add a front lip.
-Might change the hood.
-I don't want to over-do it with the looks, not to over compensate for the lack of manly-ness and make it look god-awful.

Any comments appreciated

She looks like this one (this ones not mine) except I have a grey cloth interior.

#1 Welcome to the forum.

#2 First MOD: I'd change the top color to black. I don't mean to be a jerk but just being honest and it will be a night/day difference. Forget trying to match the rims with an already bad choice of top (not trying to be an a hole just honest.)

#3 Try not to race any friends on the street if you can help it, take it to the track man.

#4 Go with GEARS to start out. At least 4.10's if it is AUTO. 5.0 cars are not very fast to be truthful against todays tecnology but they have C.I. advantage. If I did it all over again and had the money, I would have turbo'd it....but since that may be a looong time down the road, GEARS GEARS GEARS! :)

#5 Cool rims yes, white rims noooooooooooooo.
#6 Don't waste too much money on bolt ons cuz you wont get much power. Now a H/C/I, yes you will gain power or turbo or s/c or go BIG c.i.

i completely agree... if u go with a black top, look into a nice set of black fr500s specially if u slap some tint on it too... and yes to 410 gears if its an autoo, i LOVE my 4.10s and cant wait to see how my car will react with the new H/C/I (heads/cam/intake) swap im doing

Thanks guys. I really don't think I can afford to change the top. Other than the color, it has no flaw on it. It looks perfect.

I came across these pictures on the net, and I sort of like the way this one looks.

Gotta disagree with the others. I like the white top. I don't think the white wheels would be a good choice.

My recommendations--for your desired result:

1) Lowering kit and wheels. Drop it an inch and a half, and go with some chrome or polished aluminum. Old school is my preference, as you can see in the pic, and IMHO gives you a more testosterone-laden look.

2) Gears. Going faster is always manly-er.

3) exhaust. Arguably could be #2, but I prefer to have the "go" first.

You don't need body kits and other to look good. Change the stance, then change the wheels and tires, and your car will have a whole new personality.

That, and inform them that you're secure enough in your manhood that you don't have to drive a black car to feel like you've got a big winkie!:nice:

Ok, since you want budget manliness:

1. Chin spoiler (~$100)
2. Dye the top black (I think you can dye it).
3. Lower it (FRPP Springs are cheap)
4. Exhaust (I bought classified headers for $100, O/R H-pipe for $50, Flows with Dumps for $50).
5. New 17" rims. Craigslist take off for as low as $200 with decent tires. A LOT cheaper than $800+ for new wheels and tires.

Just my thoughts as to what I would do for budget.

If you have more to spend then go with:

6. Gears

Its amazing what a new set of headlight will do for a car. I recently replaced my old yellowed and sick headlights with a "Smoked Diamond Clear" kit and wow, i cant stop looking at my car. Every chance i get, i peek out the window just to get another glance.

If your going for manly-ness. my suggestions would be:
1.)Tastefull set of wheels, with a spacer on the rear
2.)Exhaust system to open it up a bit, i prefer the sound of an H-pipe, but to each there own
3.)Lower it
4.)Headlights and tint
5.)Smokey burnouts

That, and inform them that you're secure enough in your manhood that you don't have to drive a black car to feel like you've got a big winkie!:nice:

i resent that remark :nono:

sounds like you got a really nice car there. get some pics of YOUR car to post up.

i say keep the white top, you don't see to many of them around anymore, especially in good condition.

do wheels and first, it will make such a difference you won't believe it. then gears, then exhuast. not straight pipes, you want an h or an x pipe in there.

Wheels & tires and lowering change the whole look. I like 18" wheels personally.

Here is a shot of my son's car which is the same color as your's. His High school car with low miles all stock when he got it. He changed the top color to black w some blue pearl, S281 spoiler, Cobra front bumper, Flowmaster exhaust and you can see the wheels, tinted windows and headlights, billet grill. He also painted the mirrors and tail lights black. It looks great now, really turns heads!

1: wheels and tires - chrome or polished alumnium 275 rear 245 fronts minimium
2: lowering springs
3: window tint
4: chin spoiler
5: gears- they won't change the look but it'll feel faster
6: don't race anybody you only have 215 hp and a heavy car

As the other guys have said, its not too hard to spruce these cars up. Ive also got a vert and am on a budget. Heres what I'd do

-Wheels, imo should come before lowering, does the most to take that stock look out of your stang (mine were on the car when I bought it, and all though they wouldnt be my first choice, they are an improvement over the stockers)

-Mufflers and midpipe, these are cheap and give you a killer sound as well as some SOTP kick. I got my offroad H used off craigslist for $60, and the flowmasters were on the car when I bought it.

-GEARS, as others say it feels like the car has shed a few hundred pounds. I found 3.73s to be a nice compromise for highway and acceleration.

-Lowering gives a nice stance and definately sets the car apart, go for that if you can afford it (still in the works for me)

-Skip the other bolt ons and get into the engine, I am putting together a gt40p, gt40 intake, stock cam combo. Parts can be had cheap, and theres a certain satisfaction to finding them, cleaning them up, and putting it all together yourself :D

-Headlights, these are the best bang-for-buck appearance mod, next on my list.

Good luck building your stang the way you like it, and dont let those comments get to you, as cliche as it sounds, they are probably just jealous :nice: what do they drive?

Just dont forget that the meanest thing you can do for looks is to drop it and get some fat 315s out back.

My little checklist would look like this (limited for money sake):

Exterior
1. Springs (Ford Motorsport C-springs $110 bucks)
2. Wheels (I like your thinking with the FR500s. Awesome, but NO white)
3. 315s out back

-If you can afford it- Headlights and cobra R hood

Power
1. Offroad pipe and mufflers. Forget headers. They are NOT worth the money when you are on a budget. Forget SLP. Most people are going to tell you they sound just like a truck with straight pipes. Get some flows. Cheap and sounds good.
2. Gears

-No other bolt ons are worth it when on a budget.

Just remember its not going to be worth putting a bunch of money into little performance mods cause its not gonna be fast no matter what. You gotta really dig into the motor or get a power adder to do anything worth while. Thats why I say make it sound good and get some gears so its not a complete joke and save the rest of your money to do something worth while. :)

Tell your son to repaint the top "white" and please report back his exact remarks back to you. And yes that is a cool looking car.

If he has enough money to do the mods we are suggesting, he has enuf $$ to change the color of the top. That's the last I'll say about it but if you really like driving around in a car with a white top then its your preference and thats all that matters.
