I have a 94 GT with lots of mods including 185 heads, Typhoon Upper and Lower Manifold, CAI, 70MM Throttle Body ETC.. The car was setup with a 93 Throttle Body, Spacer, IAC, TPS etc. I converted over to the correct equipment for the 94 (curved elbow, TB, IAC, TPS etc.) for stalling issues.. The car is chipped for the prior setup. The car seemed so much more powerful with the prior setup (I cannot even break the tires loose in first anymore).. What happened? .. I want my power back :( .. Any info will help.. Thanks

The car has stock 308's in it but I was able to break the tires lose in first and partially in second before. Somebody told me that for some reason if the car was in limp mode it will bump the timing and it will seem faster? I guess the chip prevents the check engine light from going on? Also, I am getting a slight pinging now. Would it affect the car that much with the minor mods that I did?

I have not checked the timing. I think that it was bumped for the last setup. If I take it down will I lose even more HP? Would the chip affect it that much? I did not change anything else.

We need ur mods listed in your sig first. Second, the only way to get the most out of your car is to either be an expert in self tuning or just bite it and go get it tuned by someone else.

I just put my mods in my signature. I do not want to get it re chipped until I do headers and catted x pipe. (I just bought the car and am slowly nursing it back to health) If I remove the chip won't my check engine light go on? If everybody else agrees I will try it?

Are you sure you haven't done any mods SINCE the chip was burnt? Usually a chip is tailored to a certain combo and even the smallest change can make the tune useless! I've seen it happen time and time again.

I say pull the chip, the car may not run as well as it should, but it'll definately tell you if the chip is causing the problems or not, and you don't even have to spend any money to do it!

I started it up this morning and it wanted to stall out on me right away. I went out and pulled the chip and now it will not idle at all. What would my next step be? Could the coil be bad? Should I get a Cobra computer? Do I need to give it a tune up? I am desperate to get this thing running right. Help!

Slow down and stop introducing variables.

Why did you convert it from the fox III intake components? If for surging and stalling, the issue was probably there before and is now exacerbated.

Was anything with the MAF changed?

Nothing was done with the MAF. My mechanic said that the correct elbow and throttle body must be done so it would be correct for the specific year (He likes everything to be done by the book). I believe that the chip really only calibrates the computer and the motor to work with the 24lb injectors but I am not positive. Now that I think about it, I probably did not have to do what I did, but it is already done. I am going to put the chip back in tomorrow. When the work was done 2 days ago I immediately felt a major loss of power but it idled ok. Yesterday it started out ok but after about 20 miles it started stalling, hesitating and slightly pinging now it will not idle almost at all without stalling. What should I do next? (I just wanted to thank everybody for their help so far, especially you HISSIN50, you guys are always knowledgeable and know your stuff).. :SNSign:

Does your mechanic have a scanner that can read live data while the car runs? He probably does. That would be a nice way to try and see what's going on when it stalls and runs like crap. He can see IAC duty cycle, total timing, ECT's and a lot of other data that might show what's going on. If you have a friend with a scanner like an AutoXray 5000, you can do the same thing yourself.

You have SO many variables that getting codes and seeing live data is where I would start if I was going to work on your car. Otherwise, it's like finding a needle in a haystack.

I think it was mentioned earlier, but the timing has been checked, right? Double check it because the dizzy might not have been tightened down all the way.

I honestly beleive you just need a tune. With that kind of combo, you're probably gonna have to bring the car to a dyno. When I installed the blower in my last car along with the 42's and matching MAF, the car would barely run! As soon as the tuner popped the chip in with the base tune, she fired up and ran like a top, the exhaust smell told the story all by itself, was perfect.

And as far as I'm concerned, the Fox throttle body is an upgrade, at least it was for me. And I get the feeling your chip isn't tuned correctly for your current combo. Take it to a dyno man and have that beast tuned, it'll be the best investment you'll make.

Well, I went out and did a tune up today and it turned out that I was running on 7 cylinders. My plugs were corroded beyond belief from running rich and one of my plug wires was broken. My power is back! The car still surges a tiny bit and stalled out on me twice. I will check the timing and hopefully be able to get it dyno tuned soon. We will see?

Yeah thats kinda like what my car had when I first got it. Misfiring, slow and unresponsive. Changed the plugs instantly made it faster and smoother. Cleaned the MAF and that really brought it back. I was doin peel outs in first and second going uphill. Nice feeling.
