If you had a stock 5.0?

I'm low buck so i go cheap but spend what you want.

Seeing that i'm cheap and you have headers already
GT-40 heads, Not the GT-40p
Small cam, nothing over .500 lift
Stock upper and lower intake and a 65mm Throttle body.
Scrap the fan and go electric.

If money is no problem
AFR heads
Mild cam
Trick flow intake and 65mm Throttle body
Scrap the fan and go electric.

GT40 heads
Trick Flow Stage 1 cam
Cobra or better intake and supporting throttle body etc

That combo right there with the usual tricks here and there like running a short belt, electric fan, gears, pulleys, etc, will get you a 12 second car on slicks.

Ok i have a set of 69 302 heads # dooe would these be good

Do you know off hand what the bowl cc is and what size valves they have in them? They're a pretty decent flowing head as far as the casting but they could use larger valves more than likely. Now if you had some 289 HiPo heads that you could do a little port work to and but in 1.94 intake valves, you'd have some really healthy heads that would bump compression up quite a bit.

Ok im goin to take them to my local engine shop and see what i have

If you want to do a cheap build you can make good power with the stock intake and stock heads it has been done, there is ppl on here that have done it. I would start with basic's exhaust, cold air intake, pulleys, bump timing to 14*, mass air meter, throttle body, electric fan, good set of plugs an wires not cheapos. There is a person on here that ports stock intakes if i remember right his screen name is Tmoss. The stock heads can also be ported to create some good flow numbers. Its mainly getting on the internet an researching it out. Everyone is gona tell you H/C/I but what is your goal with the car is it a street/ fun car or a more track car.

for the money nitrous will get you faster for cheap.

then a power adder and then the HCI parts.

i personally reccomend the power adder. will make alot more power than a HCI and can be as cheap as a HCI or maybe a tad more (but the power you have over the simple HCI justifies the cost)

you can grab a simple vortech setup for 1500-2000 pretty easy.
or even a nice turbo setup for under 3k... B&G and ponydown have complete kits (except fueling) available for under 3k, and are more than capable of making enough power to split the stock block even with the stock head cam and intake.

the HCI works good and provides a big power gain over stock but for the money the power adder route wins.

as for nitrous, it will get you faster for the cheapest but i dont like the bottle filling and all the other small stuff that goes with nitrous, i'd rather have the power on hand all the time

if you have the funds, do the HCI and a power adder and you will be set :nice:
