Pulley Tensioner Question

First of all, this is related to bypassing my smog pump since it seized on me last week and destroyed my belt. Done many searches on smog pump delete and just decided to bypass it totally and remove it while getting rid of the wires, hoses, and putting some bolts behind the heads to where it had once connected.

So, while trying to bypass it totally after trying 5 belts, my tensioner pulley is touching near the water pump pulley when I have a belt on(surface of belt is touching each other). How can I adjust the tensioner to where it's not pointing straight down (this is w/o any tension on it) to where instead of pointing at a 6 o' clock direction to somewhere around a 4 o'clock position so the belt is not rubbing against itself.

Is it a reverse thread on the tensioner?

With 214K miles on the stang, I've had to replace so many things just to keep it going and this is just another obsticle.

Are you sure you have the belt routed correctly? I did the smog pump delete and it required a shorter belt of course, but i found a map on here that showed how to correctly route the belt with it being shorter. Thats the only thing i could think of for making your tensioner go all the way down.... Im sure if you search on here you can find the map or even google it.

other than that being a cheap replacemnt tensioner, it looks positioned correctly to me.

Ok, the first time last week I did re-route wrong and should have drawn and took a printed pic of the belt routing with me. So I bought a 84" belt, got it on and feels just right. Not too tight or loose and works great!

Thanks for the help! Next step will be getting rid of the smog equipment.
