8" Axles shaft length - HELP TODAY

Hey guys,

I discovered that I've got two bent axles in my 66.

There's a guy here locally that's selling two shafts from a 65 Fairlane that he measures as 26.25 and 30.25. This is .25 longer than my axles measure.

Will they work in my car or be slightly too long?

With enough splinage remaining, you can cut or grind the .25 off. File bevel each spline end, good to go.
Kinda shade tree, but it'll work.

Nothing wrong with that procedure. Standard when shortening a rear end.

Seriously? Shortening the axles is some thing I can do with a cutoff wheel and file?

Not saying I won't rig something, but axles seem more precise than that.

[Glen's 1965 5.0]

I use a cut to fit axle for a replacement and had to cut an 1" off of the spline end. Cut off wheel worked fine. There is nothing to attach to that end so it does not have to be precisely perpendicular.

For everyone future reference, the axles were about 1/8 inch longer and they fit no problem - bolted right in and zero issues.
