Ignition Coils?

I have run MSD and two types of GMS COPs. They all worked better than the OEM coils. I was getting spark blow out at 8-10 PSI with the OEM COPs. I added the HT0 plugs and gapped them to .030 but still got some spark blow out ona hard pull. I switched to high voltage coils and they immedialtely stopped the spark blow out. I then gapped the pugs to .045 and still no blow out.
The car runs smoother, revs better and pulls harder when In have on the GMS Hrad Core Series coils. If I switch back to OEM I get instant spark blow out and it does not run as hard or idle as smoothly.
I run 12 PSI now and I run the Hard Cors Series COPs and I am very happy with the results.
 
Are any of the F/I guys out there using after market ignition coils and if so did they make any difference at all?

I'm about to put some new spark plugs in and was thinking if I was going to use after market coils might as well put them on while I have the stockers off. Here is a link to the ones I'm looking at right now. Summit SUM-850593-1 - Summit® Coil-On-Plug Ignition Coils

I'm using Screamin Deamon with live wires. about a 3hp gain. I didn't notice what year etc.. yours is though. Here's the URL. They have different performance coils depending on applications. I've had mine for about a year.
The Screamin' Demon Coils are designed to produce an exceptional spark throughout the entire RPM range with virtually no drop in power. Stock coils are notorious for falling off as RPM goes up. Screamin' Demon Coil has been dyno tested providing 3 more horsepower at 5000 rpm over stock coils. The Screamin' Demon has a brass terminal for which your coil wire attaches to. The brass terminal is more conductive than the stock aluminum terminal and will resist corrosion longer. Plug gaps can be widened to .060" due to the energy of this coil. The wider spark plug gap will allow more spark energy into the combustion chambers providing more power and improved mileage. The Screamin' Demon is too "hot" for stock plug wires. 8 mm spiral core wires are highly recommended.

I'm running a 2005 GT which has COPs (Coil on plug). So the standard coil design like your screamin Demon won't work for me or the other S197 V8's but would for the 4.0 V6 guys, but thanks for the reply.
 
Anybody know if running aftermarket COPs on a n/a motor is worthwhile or would it just be a waste of money?

I've never noticed any difference running aftermarket COPs on any n/a mod motor. However, I have seen some small improvements with after market coil connectors like the ones Granatelli sells. Nothing I've been able to measure in terms of HP, but I've seen smoother idle. Still, I don't think it's worth the money.

Performance Distributors have more than just the screamin deamon flavor of coils. There are V8's using the screamin deamon but again, I mentioned that they have different coils depending on your application. So my point was that Performance Distributors has quality stuff. So you have a choice other than msd

Do you have any experience with COPs on F/I cars?

No experience with high output coils. I have Summit Racing's brand of COPs on my Vortech supercharged 4v DOHC V8 in my Marauder. Running them with GMS' solid coil connectors. Again, smoother idle, but unfortunately I did not get a base line dyno pull with the factory COPs before I switched, so I don't know if they really made any power differences or not. I'm only pushing a little over 8 psi of boost, though. I imagine if I was running higher boost I might need some higher output spark and/or less gap on the plugs. I run 0.035" gap with NGK-TR6 plugs right now. For reference I made 417 RWHP on 6psi boost. I have not done a new dyno pull since I upped the boost to 8 psi.

I over looked these, thanks for the link!! I have heard that the V6 guys talk very highly about Screaming Demon stuff but never heard the V8 guys say anything or could find any for the 4.6L engines. I might give them a try and if I do I will get before and after dyno sheets.
