The mustang went on the rollers this morning without any additives in the fuel or anything. Failed for hydrocarbons only; it passed in the other 2 categories. It says the guideline is 0.9 and mine was at 1.12. The guy said that is pretty close.

What if I put some rubbing alcohol in the fuel? I can also probably lean it out a little in the tune by increasing the fuel injector size. The tune says 42# currently ... if I increase it to, say 46# or something, then the computer should give it less fuel because it thinks the injectors flow more.

I have heard the alcohol works well.
No experience with it myself.

I had the vacuum port plug under the upper intake removed and i had 0 hcc.
You can definitly hear the air sucking :lol:

It ran like poo for the time it was on the roller but :)
It didn't trip the cel either .
Maybe not a great idea but it worked.

A couple of tricks that have worked for me was to run a bottle of rubbing alcohol with 93 oct. gas and to remove the air filter. Granted this was on a carbed car though, my 95 stang passes without any probs. Hope this helps

you could try lowering the fuel pressure.

also, what were the other readings CO, O2, CO2, NOx??

do they do an ASM test (2 speed), or an IM 240 style test (varying speeds normally following a trace)??

i don't have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. i see what you mean though about it ... that would be a very easy way to lean it out. :(

i don't have the sheet in front of me, but they were all below the limits. i can post back later with those numbers.

it was more like the 2nd test, the IM 240.

i think i'll try the rubbing alcohol trick

I have done this to pass emissions. Do a search under my name to see what I did but I have tried this and using the G2P...

I can't recall what my readings were after each of the different things (all of this was with a non functioning EGR)....

This year I passed with flying colors... Put my cats on of course....

Nope, no afpr. I have a TwEECer, and since the computer makes all its calculations based on the assumption that the fuel pressure is stock, I want to keep the stock fuel pressure anyway. Therefore, an apfr does not provide much value to me. If I have a need to tweak things, I change the calibration.

That said, in this case, for a temporary leaning out, an afpr would make it really easy.

I have some PYPES high flow cats in there already, mainly because I couldn't handle the lawnmower smell without them.

In CT we get a free re-test within 30 days... if the same in MD I would say pull the spout and MAYBE some fresh plugs and I bet you pass. Can't hurt to run some sort of fuel system cleaner ahead of time as well....

Me and my gearhead buds have done the alcohol thing on older cars that had
to pass the mini dyno :rlaugh: roller test

What we've done is ...

Run like 1/8 of a tank of gas
Put 90% of the bottle in the tank and get the car to normal temp
Just before you get to the inspection place you sprinkle the remaining
10% on the air filter

Has worked many times for us :D

btw ... you don't wanna do the roller test with real dirty oil/filter

we get it too ... the thing is that this motor is young enough it doesn't need new plugs

i'm going to try it soon ... i'll post back afterwards ... i think i'll change the oil before going back thru

if they have a visual test then the cats would be a problem. i've seen some cars, mostly carbed, pass emission (tailpipe test) without cats.

in CA and AZ if the tester can not get to the tailpipes safely they can refuse to test it. although i never refused a car for that when i did them in CA. CO is probably the same.
