High Crankcase Pressure...Bad Noises...Thoughts?

Hey All,

I took the car for a quick run last night after getting many of my problems resolved. I installed a professional products 70mm TB that didn't have a spot for the hose from the valve cover to attach to it. Not really thinking about it much I just put a cap on it where the hose used to attach at the oil fill neck (this is a 91 5.0L) a while back and I forgot to resolve this problem.

Anyway, I took it for a quick drive and it was running well and then the engine started making horrible noises. Sounded like no oil situation or something... really bad clanking. I quickly turned the engine off and coasted to the side of the road. When I got out and under the hood I could hear a big "Ping" that sounded like the oil pan contracting back in! I then pulled the dip stick and got a rush of pressure release.

After a couple of seconds of thinking about it I realized I hadn't fixed the valve cover to TB situation, so I pulled the cap off the valve cover nipple and fired it back up...no more noise. I then gingerly drove it home but it seemed fine.

Any thoughts on what the horrible noise I heard was from the high crankcase pressure? Did I starve the engine of oil? I think I'll do a compression test tonight to see if I've screwed up real bad. It would figure just when I get this thing going that I'd screw it up again!
