Let just start here, I have my motor with no distributor and the motor is not at Top Dead Center (TDC).

-What I have done:
-Pulled the spark plugs
-From the harmonic balancer rotated the motor clockwise
-Put my finger over the spark plug hole, and waited to fell pressure (telling me it is in the compression stoke).
-Put the tip of a screwdriver through the hole and rested it on the top of the piston. Waited for it to come as high as possible before stopping.

Now heres my problem:::
The 0 degrees mark on the harmonic balancer is about a 1" to a 1-1/2" clockwise of the timing mark that has time punched in the metal????????????

What do I do?
Align the balancer and timing mark at 0 degrees?

Thanks for any help..

Lets keep this real simple and explain a thing or two as we go :D

Assuming your hb has not spun the outer ring with the t marks on it ;)

When you line up the hb 0 mark and the straight edge of the pointer

You will be at either tdc of power or tdc of exhaust stoke

That is a given or known fact and has nothing to do with the dizzy

If you drop in your dizzy and line up the rotor with #1 cap post

You're right on the money or 180 degrees out

Again ... this is a known

See if it will fire up and rev up smoothly

If if dont :(
All you gotta do is :)
Lift up the dizzy enough to flip the rotor around 180 degrees ;)

Make sense my friend :spot:

With the spout connector out, she started great.
The timing was at 10btc so I left it.
Plugged in the spout connector and it died.
I adjusted the distributor enough to keep the motor running smooth
and it was off the charts, like a inch counter clockwise of atc...
Im clueless.....????

The mark I use is the right-knife-edge of the timing pointer. Not the circle.

If you're still off, you might be in no man's land at the top of the piston's movement. Be sure you are at the true peak and not on a slight ascent or descent.

I have the choice of either lining the timing marks(which i know number one is not at the top), or i can make sure the number one is at the top of its rotation but the timing marks wont line up?
