Hey ive got a 95 mustang and recently installed new underdrive pulleys.. the crankshaft pulley is making a sort of ticking sound when i start the car and continues untill its turned off. Before i installed these it didnt make the sound. It shouldnt be making it should it? its driving me crazy.

Is the crank pulley stock? Either way, check the 4 bolts that attach it to the balancer. You may have loose bolts. It may also be the belt hitting a certain spot on it.Perhaps that after you installed the UD's the belt tension got a little too tight. You might also want to check the crank balancer.Just because you have extra tension may have put an extra load on something that was wearing out.One other thing you may wish to check is the belt tensioner and it's pulley.Make sure that sound you are hearing IS coming from the crank pulley<and not something else.

well when i was installing it one of the 4 bolts got over tightened and the head broke off the bolt so the bolt is still in there, it would have to be tapped out, so i guess that could be some of the problem.

You can get EZ-outs at the hardware store to get the broken bolt out. You drill a pilot hole, and then use the EZ-out (which has reverse-threaded teeth) to back the bolt out.

Fix this ASAP, since a missing bolt is going to place a lot of stress on the remaining bolts. If they're working back and forth (the ticking) they could fail from fatigue.
