I just put on some magna packs but the car still isnt loud enough. i was thinking about putting an o/r X on but was wondering if it will work with the stock headers? i already know about the tuner to turn the rear o2 sensors off but is that really necessary? also which x will sound the best? pypes? prochamber etc. Thanks!

Turning off the rear O2 sensors is necessary.

Most x-pipes will sound essentially the same, I doubt most (even trained) ears could tell the difference, unless of course one is significantly more or less restrictive than the others.

No reason why it shouldn't work with the stock exhaust manifolds. Make sure you pick up one that is designed for a stock 'stang.

Just be carefull if you do install an O/R X-Pipe, because you may not be happy with the outcome of how LOUD and RASPY it may get. I would suggest doing some sound checks on YouTube, Manufacturers websites, and this forum to make sure you know what you're getting into. I'm speaking from experience on this with an O/R H-Pipe. Just check it out before you jump into it. BTW, without a tuner, your Check Engine Light is going to come on, P0420 and P0430, CAT SYS Threshold Errors.

Make sure you listen to both o/r H and X and see which you like better. I researched for a while and put a Pypes o/r H on my Stang and it DEF is louder.

Just wish I had read about trumpeting before I did it otherwise I would have installed resonators while had it apart....

well went with the o/r X and im prettty happy with the sound. was a little suprised tho at how long it took the check engine light to come on, put the pipe on saturday n it just came on now....2 days later that normal?

I would say that is normal. When I put my O/R H-Pipe my CE light came on about 100 miles after the install, cleared the codes, and they came back again after another 100 miles. I had to contact Brenspeed and they sent me some new Tunes with the Rear O2 sensors turned off.

My light took a while to come on after I put my off-road H. After a while, the car learned to deal with it and it turned off. By the time I got a tune for it, the check engine light had been off for months.

yea thats probably whats guna happen with mine, im in VA right now n wont be able to get up to PA (home) for about a month or so, i didnt plan on getting a tuner for it however untill i put an intake on then do it all in one shot

If you dont have a problem with cops pulling over for loud exhaust or emissions testing ( like DUI checkstops but for emissions) like i do here in Orange County, california then DO IT! The exaust sounds much better with the cats off but ONLY if you get a nice deep sounding mufflers like borla, or MAC, please dont get flowmaters with o/r because it will sounds like the rices rockets do at top rpm's all the time. I still thin the best sound comes from getting long tube headers, a high flow catted h or x pipe and some nice loud mufflers but that is an expensive route to take and a difficult install with the headers. Everywhere i go i get told that my car sounds just like a 65 or 68 mustang but much louder. It is really loud in the mornings before the car warms up (like way too loud, making all sorts of things inside the doors and around the car vibrate). I think its worth it, and with o/r x or h you will feel a loss of TQ down low!!! but you will def make up for it in the higher rpm range. Also, getting a cai will help lower the sound level a bit and help make it deeper so it wont be as raspy.. and if you revv the car, you want to keep it under 2500rpm where its still louder than revving a stock gt or gt with muffler up to 5000rpm but any higher will be extremely raspy and lots of popping.

ill try and get a sound clip if you cant find one, let me know.

thanks for the input man, i went with the pypes off road X and magnapacks it sounds kinda ricey around 2grand in first n second gear but in the higher rpms it has a nice raspy sound, i like it n yea mine rattles the hell outta anything in the car in the mornings too haha, sets car alarms off too =)

I had the same problem. Once I put my headers on, it went away. It not only improved he sound, but the rattling inside the car disappeared, too. It was shaking so much, that I would think my phone was going off in my pocket, but it was just the exhaust making it feel like it was.

Very annoying.

I just put a Pypes exhaust system on my 07. O/R x pipe, M-80 mid pipe mufflers. Its hooked to JBA shorties. From the sounds of it I'm gonna get an engine light in a few miles. How do you turn off the rear O2 sensor? it must take a programmer? Whats a good one?

I can only speak for myself, but after 50-100 miles of driving the car with no cats and the CEL light on, my car eventually learned to deal with it and the light turned off and the car ran fine.

The tune I have now compensates for it, and I do feel the car running harder, but the I'm sure that it is due to the mail-order tune I put in now as opposed to the canned Steeda tune that it had before.
