Hey guys, I picked up a set of 88 GT seats. They are destined to be re-upholstered and then installed in my vintage stang.

What I need to know, is if there is any difference between the front buckets in these years 87-89? Coupe, vert, hatback, are they all the same front seat?

Thanks for any info ;)

Yeah, the head rests changed and the coups more often then not had the super soft LX seats. They were unsuportive for cornering but were very comfertable. The tracks were all the same with only power motors being available but again, the track mounted the same :nice:

I'm assuming you're only curious as to whether the bolt hole locations for the seat tracks will match up... so far as I know the seat tracks from 87-04 are all the same. I have seats from a 2004 Cobra in my 1991 coupe. As far as the seats are concerned, the headrests changed and the hip bolsters may have changed as well. So yes, the seat tracks are the same but I don't know how they'll match up in an older 'stang.

edit: laser beat me to it!!

I am just trying to make sure I get the correct upholstery kit.

It looks like I have a taller headrest, power lumbar, adjustable knee support, adjustable bolster knob.

My seats are blue right now. I'll try and upload a picture tomorrow

87-89 GT seats were all the same. The seats in notchbacks, be it a 4 banger of V8 were totally different. Don't quote me on the following, but I believe 87 and possibly 88 LX 5.0 hatchbacks got the same seats as the GT. I know they did in 89, I'm just not 100% sure as to 88.

That's EXACTLY what the seats I put in my '84 look like - same headrest, same color, and everything. (Hell, even the same stains. :rlaugh: ) They're pretty comfy, aside from the fact that my driver's side has a minor case of the gangsta lean going on - I might "fix" that someday by swapping it with the passenger-side seat, so when Lynn sits over there, she'll lean over towards me. :D I DO NOT miss those crappy LX seats that I pulled out. Too soft, too bouncy, felt like you were sitting on a friggin' trampoline.

My biggest gripe about those seats is those dang headrests are always in the way when I'm trying to look over to the right - it completely blocks the quarter window on a hatchback model. (On a notch, since the window is a little more broad towards the top, high-backed seats aren't quite as big of a problem). It was to my understanding from the dude I bought the seats from that they came out of an '89 GT. FWIW, these seats also have the power lumbar air bladder things in 'em, but I haven't bothered to run a 12-volt power supply to either of the seats to make that part functional.

The seats in Frankenstang's Capri came out of a '90 5.0 Mustang (LX or GT, I dunno) and are almost exactly the same seat, but they have the shorter flat style headrest like what's on top of the LX seats. They're not as pretty as, say, halo seats, but they're more practical because they don't block your view.

GT seats are identical 1987-1989

LX 5.0 got the GT seats in 1989, 87 and 88 had stock 4-cyl style seats

in 1990, the upholestry pattern and color changed, from smoke gray plaid pattern to titanium gray without the plaid. The headrest also changed to a smaller, more ordinary style rather than the large adjustable one like yours have.

in 1993 the color changed again, this time to opal gray from titanium. at first glace all the shades of gray seem close, but when you mix and match gray interior parts from different years in the same car, the difference shows
