Horrendous new belt squeal....how to get rid of it?

So I had my pulleys replaced and an idler pulley. With it I got a new gates 81" belt. Well idol is fine but at RPM it sounds like wide open A$$.

I'm not sure how to get rid of it. I know it's the belt because when applying the 3M product "something in can belt wise", it removed the sound then it came back...it appeared to go out nearly completely but at RPM its back with a vengeance. Do I just wait or is there anything I can do to mitigate the horror that fills my ears now when I:nice: drive.

I don't....I used a site that approximated the belt size based on 81"
6lb lower 3.1 upper , 1x 92mm idler, 2x100mm, 1x92mm

I had ordered 3 x100mm smooth but the guy said only the 92mm would fit next to the 6lb lower.

Are you thinking its slipping?

It felt tight as hell to me...what should the tension area look like...what is it 2.5" slack?

crap forgot to try the soap will today but....

I do notice its quiet dead quiet at idol now. But when you give it some gas it gets nuts and increases with RPM. And..if you engage the clutch it stops.

So to me that sound like you're assessment is correct....wrong belt size.

Its an 81" now....I'm thinking 80" or 79.5

Contacted billetflow

I contacted the good folks that did the work. They stand on "its a pulley issue and the belt is just dirty....its the right size."

I contacted BilletFlow "ahhh no if the belt is quiet at idol and it gets worse with RPM it sounds like a loose belt. And if you can push the clutch in...and it stops....its a loose belt. "

He recommended trying to take some out of the belt with the adjusting tension. I think you can take out 2.5"? He was thinking if that does not work go with .5 smaller belt.

Can you really take 2.5" out ...that seems a lot.

wow tensioner is missing one of the stops

So I take a look at the belt tensioner...trying to figure out if the thing is pegged one side or the other....look down....
It has two pegs on either side of the indicator right?

Well mine now is missing the inner tab.....its broke off!

So in theory if the car is under load can the torque pull through the stop area and basically yo-yo or is the thing pretty much not going to move?

I'm thinking its an autoadjusting tensioner or "a spring" so if you put a load on that guy hard it should pull to the tab?

My new gates started to squeal after a few weeks... Goes away when warm, stops if you put belt dressing on.

Went and ordered a gatorback belt, hopefully the gates just got dirty or glazed. Svtp has a lot of similar post regarding gates belts.
